Just a month to go for the 2018 rally. Team list is out. Getting things together, supply load outs split between vehicles, trucks beefed up and ready to go.

First time for me and so many questions. Hoping some veterans can help answer a few for who ever is reading this and may have questions too.

One I have is about getting the map info. How did they handle map and route downloads last year? My nav device is wi-fi only... so a little concerned.

Use this thread for any rally chatter. Post pics of your rally trucks or whatever.

Hope to meet some of ya'll there.

Zack will send out GPX files out a couple days before the rally. Gives you time. Download Gaia app for your phone and you’ll have the option to download the Topo maps, once the routes come out, so you can use them during no cell service. You also can turn on WiFi hotspot on your phone and run an WiFi only iPad or whatever. See you at the rally.

Thanks. Yeah I found out how that part works. Going to use view ranger for my nav app. It does down load maps too.

The latest email was pretty cool. Sounds like it's going to be a blast. Especially day 3.

Last year, did the route include the road sections or just the off road parts?

It was all the routes, on and off road. Lots of on road last year. But turned out fine. In Jimbo’s likeness, there will be check points along the way. If he is doing it the same as last year, we all will camp at a central camping area. It’s a good time.

It’s a fun time. But after this year we won’t be returning next year. Yes the people we meet are great. The experience is great. But the cost per driver is up to $150.

Price doesn’t bother me. I’m good with 150 once a year. I think it was only 50 last year. I understand that as the event grows, the price can increase. Just hope it doesn’t grow any higher. Haha

I was an official last year along with JimboAnz, but this year I am participating. It was SO much fun as an official, I am super excited to be in it this year.
Only $50 a vehicle was SO cheap, $150 is a very reasonable cost for all the work Zach does to run the event.

How accessible is gas going to be this year. Anyone have an idea? I didn't finish the coal conversion on my truck yet.

I would recommend some spare parts too. Spare parts bag: 2x wheel bearing, 2x rear u-joints, 2x upper BJ, 2x rear brake cylinder. Coming: 1x upper idler pulley, 1x lower idler pulley.. Somewhere I have tie-rods too. CV axle and driveshaft too.

    Agreed!

I’m bringing five/five gal cans strapped to the bed rack. That’s over two tanks with a full tank of fuel. I suspected there will be a few.

25 Gallons! Wow, that a lot. I was only planning on bringing 1 extra 5 gallon can.

I’ll have 10 gallons for my 4Runner. Won’t know my actual fuel usage as I’ll have 0 trail time on it before the rally

I have 10 gallons and each of the jeeps in the team have 5. More worried about them than me.

I'm light on the spare parts. Like none LOL. But the truck is pretty new. I'll pick up some u joints and be really careful.

We are actually planning on running the hard section. His last email said it was worse than last year's hard section at Rich Mountain. We all have winches, and alot of experience off road... so hoping that gets us through.

His email also said we'll only pass 2 gas stations on day 1 I think.
