Local off-road shop seems clueless.. Just added 285 70 17s
ADS Extended travel coil overs and rear shocks. 3 leaf AAL
    SPC Light racing UCAs

I brought it to my local off-road shop, New England off road. Hoping to address some issues with rubbing and have them adjust my ride height. When I showed them what was going on I got some serious eye roll and was asked “who recommended this tire size?”
This guy had no suggestions as to where to trim. Never at all suggested a cab mount chop.

So I’m going to have him adjust the ride height and do the cmc myself. Just ordered plates from mob town Offroad.

I think that shop has a pretty good reputation. I don't think they're in the business of hacking/trimming up peoples trucks.

Clearly they’re not. And I have heard good things about them.. This is why their lack of knowledge surprised me. I seriously could not believe they did not know how to fit a 285 on a Tacoma.

Because to some cutting a body mount is not a good idea.

And they might be Jeep guys more than anything

Could be they thought YOU were clueless because 285's on a Tacoma... they gonna rub 90% of the time. Likely why the question on the tire size!! Just and observation.

Most shops wont even do any hammering or chopping, that's the owners job in case something gets messed up.

A shop like that probably rolls their eyes because you chose a tire size that they wouldnt have recommended, because they are an experienced shop. Now you bring them your fuck-up and expect them to sawzall your ride to fit. They probably dont want to touch it for the same reasons a mechanic doesnt want to fix a job that a shade-tree mechanic half started. If you want to take a hack saw to your truck, then by all means do it yourself and save a lot of money.

Lots of great shops will do cab mount chop.
If they did not want to do it they should have just said (we don’t do that type of work) .
Instead you get an eye roll and talked down to ???
Don’t let them touch your truck .

Tell the shop to pound sand. Buy one of these and adjust them yourself. They don't deserve any business.

The shop owner is the guy to talk to, its his liability. I had my reroute done that way and the owner was the person who did the work- he practically gave it to me minus the cost of materials so that he could try it out as they never rerouted a newer Taco before. He did other muffler work for me before, so I knew he does great pipe welding, plus most importantly, his shop guarantees work in writing for two years (plus they are insured in case they burned my truck). I would ask about insurance and guarantees whenever there is any welding work on my cars- my first car got burned at a garage and it was a nightmare trying to get any repair money from them (they didnt have liability and I only had basic insurance at the time). We ended up settling out of court over it, and they fixed the damage. There’s some great welders here by the looks of their work, so definitely go with experience whenever possible.

I bet the "offroad shop" would be completely OK with fu$&ing your truck up with a sweet drop bracket lift.

I am but I have a 2.5" lift. Pretty sure 275/70s will rub unless you have a lift and adjust your castor to 3 plus.

Update; I spoke with the mechanic at the off-road shop and he was actually quite knowledgeable and quite helpful. I didn’t have them do any of my work, I did it myself. But I’m looking forward to further correspondence with them.

You must have confused and “off road shop” with an “off road fabrication shop”. They aren’t the same. I’m on the east coast now, never seen an off road shop out here that knows anything about fabrication, only parts changing. It’s a shame.
