Hear you brother Mojave. I’m sure they “threw it away” too. Good luck OP, because that could have been a defective bolt given nothing is perfect.

Well- at least his photos are good enough to ID the part and one could count and compare the total number of threads on it to a good one. Not all is lost.

Sure would have liked to see the bolthead edges closer though. And if it sheared off, we may know where the other part is.

True. The photo is better than nothing. From what I can tell, nothing seems to have hit the head of the bolt. The edges look clean with no blunt marks.

Then those photos are just as good. Someone at Toyota possibly fucked up, if OP never touched that bolt.

That bolt does look air tool damaged, the head is striped and threads are broken - I think the pics do look good enough for OP to prove it if the shop cant return the original part. The end of the broken off bolt is in the hole still too, I bet.

Never even popped the hood after they replaced it. And I wouldn't even know where to look for the HP fuel pump..

Seeing as where I wouldn't even know where to find this pump... should these bolts have oil on them?!? Haha cause it did have I assume engine oil on it.

Not sure... but they called me yesterday to tell me that one of the parts they ordered didn't arrive. Some gasket... so new estimated date is tuesday. At first the service person didn't know what 'part' was being ordered. I asked her to find out and later called me and said the shop foreman told her it was the gasket they had ordered but didn't arrive.

I have a weird feeling they might be stalling to figure out how to sort this situation out?

Well did they tell you if the bolt came from the HP pump? And what part needs the gasket? If it's the HP fuel pump then no, they screwed up when they did the TSB and don't appear to be willing to own up to it.

Edit - The delay is probably them trying to figure out how to get the other end of that bolt out.

Yup- its easy out time. Not so easy though when the part is at the bottom of the hole, and I’d be worried how deep they go with the drill, OP. Ask the shop forman if there is a broken bolt part in the hole and what their plan is to retrieve it. Also ask if they do use a easy out or extractor, are any critical parts behind the hole they have to worry about if the drilling out goes too deep.

Your invoice will probably have the tech's name and he will have initialed he torqued it to specs. Beauty of checklists. Accountability. Would definitely go for an extended warranty on it. If they fix it right they shouldn't have anything to worry about. Stealerships are used to people complaining so you have to be extra squeaky to get any grease.

Stuff like that is always fun. Was in Moab once and one of the other guys broke a half shaft off inside his front diff. We had to drill into it (which took forever, those things are hard, and ate through some drill bits), and then tap some threads into it just enough that we could get a couple threads of a bolt in and pry it out. Took all morning.

lol. Do you have any clue how hard it is to determine where a lot of parts went, to what batch of vehicles those parts were supplied too, deal with a vendor to get new parts and old ones warrantied and credited, while tested said new parts. Not everything is a dollar pinching exercise. Sometimes figuring the issue and cause take time.

Its actually not that hard if you have a good inventory management system.. SAP, Oracle, etc.
