I'm upgrading the non JBL in my Tacoma. My wife has the JBL in her rav4 which was where my disappointment came from. The JBL being 2 ohm doesn't really give many options for upgrading as I understand it. If you go 4 ohm which almost everything aftermarket is, you lose volume.

Thats what I have, the non-JBL of the TRD Pro. First, I bought the Subaru Kicker tweeters for the front. Then, I thought while I'm at it, I'll replace the crappy paper speakers in the doors with some Kickers. I'm curious to how this will sound because I don't have the truck yet, ( mid-June delivery ). I'm wondering if I should get an amp and a sub while I'm waiting for the new truck to get here. I already have a stack of parts to add whats a sub and an amp, right?

I'll let you know. I'll have mine in this weekend and get back to you on my thoughts. I cracked the paper speaker in the non JBL after the 3rd day only listening to it at 45 or so.

Check out the OEM Audio + upgrade.. I skipped the JBL package and went with the OEM Audio + (the better of the two options they offer) and it is awesome. All plug and play as well.

    Exactly.
20 something me didn’t want it in my 2nd gen cause ‘I can build a way better system than that’
30 something me thinks it’s just fine for what it is in the 3rd gen, cause ‘I don’t have time to fuck around with that shit’.

Plus, it’s not like I’m rolling thru the mall with all the windows down bumping biggie trying to get attention with my bass.

I'm blown away at the kicker upgrade in the non JBL Tacoma. Initially I added the kicker tweeter's, felt a little underwhelmed. Ordered the kicker upgrade for the front and rear doors assuming I would go back and add an amp and sub. Definitely no need. It sounds unbelievable. Blows my 2nd gen JBL out of the water. I'm very pleased. Volume is slightly less. What was 45 is now 48.

When you see the stock speakers, you'll actually laugh out loud. I had them in a box in the back seat and I'm surprised they didn't blow out. The magnent isnt strong enough to hold a kids drawing on the refrigerator.

Grab some Roadkill Fast rings. One 6x9 and one 6.5. There are YouTube videos on how to install. I didn't do the deadening, but when I close my door now, there is a more solid feeling. Could be placebo, but it's not very expensive and worth it in my opinion.

I have the JBL and cant believe how bad it sounds. It actually hurts my ears to the point where sometimes I just turn it off. Really upsetting. The highs are so loud and the lows are non existent. I notice this in all toyotas, for some reason their sound systems are terrible.

You listen at 48! I usually listen at 8-12, maybe go up to 20 if the wife is not in the truck and it is feekin loud! That is with the OEM Audio plus system upgrade. I don’t remember what the volume was with the stock non-jbl system. I can see how you cracked the oem speakers. Lol

Lol, I normally have it in the 20s. I do have a stretch of road on the way home that's 50 mph and this time of year my windows are always down.

Prevents rattling. Since it also goes tight between the door and the speaker, it supposedly amplifies the sound better. It was recommended by a co-worker, I'm a believer.

I just installed the 4 door speakers from crutch-field yesterday and what a difference in sound.

    Tweets from Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Suba...pID=418tdhVWMLL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

front - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_151OE692T/PowerBass-OE692-TY.html?tp=47095&omnews=13141841 - these are OEM replacements bolt on and plug right up.

back - https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DSC6704/Kicker-43DSC6704.html?tp=78072&omnews=13141841 - installed with brackets with foam tape on bracket and speaker.

Cant get over how much better it sounds now when jamming over 40 volume. Can drive with windows down at 45 and rock :)

The 6x9s look a step nicer than the ones I put in. I bet they'll sound great. Nothing worse than waiting. I waited 2 months and it felt like 6, lol. Like you, I had a pile of things to go into the new truck before it even arrived. I'm sure you've seen it, but the $250 premium sound thread is full of good info.
