On my way home from some fun light wheeling this morning and a truck pulling a trailer cut the corner and took off my side mirror and put a nice dent in the back of the truck. I know it’s hard to tell from pics but any suggestions on how to repair and the most cost effective? Ball park figures would be great! Gutted as I’ve only had the truck about 3 weeks.57D79A13-EB26-4E8E-A15C-BDAF3F5B24F5.jpgE9712D76-3451-4815-99CB-530970BB320B.jpg 9DA3F3BA-978F-41EB-B55A-5A6828233196.jpg

That sucks to hear. I'd file a police report and see if they can help track him down.

I had to jump out and cut the wires from the side mirror and threw it in the back then went after him. I did get a pic but you can barely make out the plate.

Was in the north Georgia mountains and I had no signal so had to drive about 5 miles until I could call the police. Filed a report and the cop told me they’d put out a BOLO but again not holding my breath.

Mirror is simple, that rear bed panel not to much. It’s been stretched beyond repair, so it’s either filler or new panel. Filler is cheap and simple, but its a lot of labor. if you want a cheap fix, then filler is your best bet and do it yourself (since it’s your labor), then pay for paint. If you are paying someone else to fix everything, then get a new bed panel.

@mutely I had a feeling it would possibly need replacing. I went with a $2000 deductible so trying to figure out if I should go through insurance or not. Any idea on cost for a new panel?

Take it to a reputable shop and get a thorough estimate.

I think I’ll take it back to the dealership on Monday see what they say. Was able to zoom in on the plate and can clearly make it out. Just emailed it to the cop who filed the report and I’ll give it the ins co also. Fingers crossed. It was a corporate truck that hit me not private so hoping they don’t fight too much.

You don’t want filler. It’s not meant to fill dents like that, it will crack. It’s really only to smooth out small imperfections. The less you use the better off you are.

Was it a tractor trailer (big rig) or a guy in a pickup with a trailer? Sucks either way and I'm sorry to hear that

I’m leaning towards paying the $2000 deductible and getting it done right by Toyota. Hopefully the police and or ins co can track me down and I’ll get the deductible back.

Big rig. He came around the corner and his trailer came over towards me. Sheer drop on my right so I had nowhere to go. He just kept coming.

Give all the info to your insurance company and let them fight it out with the trucking company.
