Did I lift too high?!? Can it be saved??

So i see a lot of people not recommending to go woth a full 3” lift in front without installing uca’s or having to cut. I just ordered this for my 13 dblcb trd off road with the 2” aal

I currently have 265 75 16 on stock wheels no lift and they clear just fine. With this kit the new coils are suppossed to lift 2.5” and then to get full 3” install the spacers. From what im reading here is that most people arent recommending going with the full 3”. I dont want to spend the $ on new uca’s but i also dont want any issues. Should i just stay at the 2.5” with just the coils?

 

You can try the 3” lift first and then change it out if you notice you’ll need UCA. Some people have gotten away with a 3” lift without UCA but the majority will recommend / need / want new UCA. Even Light Racing ones for $380 work

 

OP what are your hub to fender measurements?

 

The blessing and curse of having 4wd is that you generally can't lift over 2.5" (maybe 3") without front drivetrain problems. I've gone through 2 CVs since installing my Kings because I had them adjusted for 3" of lift. Only thing that made it better was lowering them to just under 2.5". Even added a diff drop and it did next to squat.

Really the only way an IFS 4x4 Tacoma can safely lift over 3" is to do a drop bracket lift, but even that doesn't really give you "lift" (the front drivetrain maintains stock height). Best way to do it is to lift a couple inches and then fit bigger tires via cutting and trimming for more height. Remember...'true lift' is really only gained through larger tires anyhow

 

So do u all think i should leace the 1/2” spacers out? Already paid for them but dint want problems. According to toytec the coils alone will give me 2.5” in front

 

If they are 1/2" spacers then yes leave them out. Rule of thumb is spacers provide twice their thickness in actual lift. So a 1/2" spacer will give you 1" of lift. That would bring your truck to 3 1/2".

 

Just got done taking out the spacers and dropping the shock to the next to highest setting. Looks a lot better. The uca is not touching the coil and my 305’s are fitting just fine with the cmc. Take more pics when it’s complete.

 

Now that I dropped the front, it’s 23 1/2 on the front and 24 1/2 in the rear.

 

Wow a guy that actually tells the truth about lifting a Tacoma with 4x4.

 

That’s still a 3” lift unless I’m wrong... I’m at about 23” in the front and 24” rear.

That’s a 3 1/2” lift for Tacoma’s. General rule of thumb for a tacoma is 20” stock height and don’t exceed 23” or 3” lift.

 

Thanks. It’s getting there slowly but surely. It would help if I did things right the first time so I don’t have to take it apart and put back together all the time.

Glad you got it looking better. Now go hit a few speed bumps and get those springs seated and settled.

Yep agree that looks good, it will settle more too. Just keep an eye on things. I’ve never heard of greasing your CV boots but do some research, may not be a bad idea
