Did I lift too high?!? Can it be saved??

    Putting grease on them reduces friction when the fins rub together.

    This.

    Take the clamp off the boot and slide them out until the fins stop touching then use a hose clamp to secure it. I did this 6 months ago and it works well.

    I have never given much thought to the fins on the CV boot touching, besides as an indicator as to the angle of the CV joints themselves. I have had 4 lifted Tacomas and have never had a boot fail from touching together. After all, the fins are only pushing together, not rubbing on each other. Couldn't hurt to put some lubricant on the fins though.
