What are these indentations in the bed for? They're on both passenger and drivers side. Looks like it might hold a toolbox or something20180513_202653.jpg

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
They are for 2x4 board so you can lay a peice of plywood in the bed flat.

Theyre spots to lay 2x4 across the bed. Allows you to lay a full piece of plywood in the bed without the wheel wells interrupting. Ooorrr to make your self a bed in the bed

And in 3rd gens. I think it has to do with the longbox vs shortbox.

Yes it is and those indentations are for a 2x6 board to make the bed split level.

I've always wondered why small/midsize truck companies are so apt to ensure that a 4x8 sheet of plywood lays flat in a pick up truck bed. I'd be interested to see the statistics on how many taco owners are actually building houses and using their Tacoma.

I put a 2x6 at the front and let’s me carry 4x8 sheets, it allows you to clear the wheel wells.
I don’t use the second one I lay them over the gate closed.

Used them for hauling plywood and sheet metal. Also works well for building a second "floor" for use while having a 45 gallon Airstream water tank under it.

It would be interesting to know how many Taco owners do anything other than commute to a desk job with an empty bed.

A bunch! Wonder how many commute to a desk job in a sports car never exceeding 55 mph?
How many commute in a mini van alone?

    Questions to ponder.

    This.

The purpose of a truck is to work, contrary to the masses who refuse to believe their Tacoma is able to do anything than get washed and pose for pics.

I spent a whole dollar on washing my truck at the pressure washer yesterday. It needed it bad between the cow shit .rock dust, pollen and some foreign sticky film on the hood. It was way over due. Lol
