What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Swapped out the old basket for a Rhino Rack platform. So pumped to have some usable storage

 

Didn’t realize Red Loctite is that strong. I’ll pick some up later.

 

Pretty good day for "Lil Truck." Valve cover gaskets were leaking at 159,000 so new valve cover gasket, intake gasket, timing chain, water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt. Front sway bar was broken and repairing it solved the loose front end that I thought was worn steering gaskets.

Replaced Extang Black Max Tonneau (Vinyl only) which been leaking for about 5 years of it's 19 years on the truck. Installed Pop'n'lock power tailgate lock. Although the truck has a snap tonneau cover, I figured a locking tailgate may keep honest people from dropping the tailgate just to see what's under the cover.

@Speedytech7 I was going to ask you what is the supercharged 3.4 CFM. Loooking into aftermarket air cleaners and trying to figure out filters and air cleaner size.

 

You got me, I have a SC 2.7, you guys have a much larger stock air filter and from what I hear just a more direct intake pipe and AFE Dry filter performs nicely. If you have a Scangauge or UG you can check how much air you're flowing through your MAF in G/s and convert to CFM

 

From what I remember all the fittings on that ARB gun are BSP so finding them might lead you to far away Amazon sellers. But I'm sure you can dig up a nice gauge (maybe fluid filled) and oiling the trigger might help it seal. @turbodb lengthened his but maybe he changed the gauge too I don't remember.

Also did some thing super lame today, finally retuned my sound system in the truck. Now it sounds balanced again and that's something haha.

 

I don't have a scan gauge. It really seems like I need to get one. Thanks for the reply bud.

I wonder how hard it would be to put a 3.4L air box in a 2.7 bay.... and if there would any performance benefit from it

 

I wonder if the 2.7 MAF is the same shape to fit the 3.4 box.

 

Well depending on the year of the 3.4 box you could probably mount the 2.7 MAF to it, just need the right size hole and the four mounting bolts. If anyone had a spare 3.4 box I'd try it, I have a spare MAF already I could try bolting to it.

Went wheeling today and had a god awful popping sound coming from my rear end when flexing over bumps, ruts, rocks, etc. Looked it over briefly on the trail and couldn't figure it out.

Got home and took a closer look and noticed that the bolt holding my drivers side leaf pack to the front hangar was holding on by 2 threads, I could remove it by hand. Got really lucky.

Unfortunately, that's the one bolt I couldn't get a torque wrench on when installing my Dakars last month because it sits only an inch or so from the gas tank...can only get a hand wrench on it. Put a generous amount of blue loctite on it tonight and tightened it as much as I could by hand, gonna have to keep an eye on it. That could've been bad.

 

Did you hit up Hollister this weekend? You should definitely put that skid back on before you do any wheeling...even though the stock skid is about as sturdy as a soda can its way better than having nothing there at all

 

Has anyone tried one of these yet? I saw it at the 4WP Truckfest a couple of months ago. I like the color.

Guy I wheel with has something like that but ARB brand if I remember right. Might be the same one. He Installed it with his dual ARB compressor. I used it to air up and it was pretty sweet.

 

I am not looking. Nothing wrong with the one I have. That digital gauge was $47 at Truckfest.
