So, what's the law? Are you saying that's concealed or open carry on the footwell? Just curious, as I'm not from TX.

Wiki says, "Open carry of a handgun in public had long been illegal in Texas, except when the carrier was on property he/she owned or had lawful control over, was legally hunting, or was participating in some gun-related public event such as a gun show. However, the 2015 Texas Legislature passed a bill to allow concealed handgun permit holders to begin carrying handguns openly. The bill was signed into law on June 13, 2015, and took effect on January 1, 2016. A License to Carry (LTC) is still required to carry a handgun openly or concealed in public."

I'm fortunately covered under LEOSA, so carrying this way is fine...

Lawful carry of a gun while in a vehicle in Texas only requires the following four qualifiers:

    • The handgun must NOT be in plain view; it must be concealed.
    • You are NOT engaged in criminal activity (excluding Class C traffic misdemeanors).
    • Federal law does NOT prohibit you from possessing a firearm. Your not a convicted felon
    • You are NOT a member of a criminal gang.
Thats the law for law abiding citizens. For people who are not cops, it's illegal for a handgun to be in plain view in your vehicle. Period. End of story.

Can we stay on topic. The guy who posted his piece is in NM anyway. It’s their repsonsibility to know the laws of any state they are entering/reciprocity.

I ran a flush mounted usb plug to my ram mount. The usb is connected to the stereo for Apple CarPlay and I use a shorty 8” cord. No more stretching cords across the steering wheel!

After finally using it this weekend :cookiemonster:

I have to say right now my RAM ball mount on my birddawg easy view mirror riser in combo with my RAM mount phone holder is my favorite mod. I can monitor my transmission temps with my phone, then just instantly switch it to camera on the fly and capture some pretty solid video. I like how you can see the hood line and how much tilt action is happening.

I'd like to let this die but I can't have you misinforming people on this:
If you're LTC (Licensed to carry) in Texas, you can open carry wherever there's not a 30.07 sign, 51% sign, federal building, courthouse WHILE court is taking place, secure area of airport, voting location, horse/dog race track, correctional facility, some Federal/National Parks & INSIDE schools. Your vehicle is NOT one of these.

What you posted above pertains to the "Castle Domain" Doctrine & is for those who do NOT have a LTC:
"Texas does not require a person to have a valid handgun license in order to carry a loaded handgun in a motor vehicle or watercraft if the vehicle is owned by the person or under the person’s control. However, Texas generally prohibits intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carrying a handgun in plain view in a motor vehicle or watercraft, except by handgun license holders carrying the handgun in a shoulder or belt holster."
His is clearly IN A HOLSTER.
I'm very well versed on this, as I've had a CHL, & now a LTC so it is my duty to know the law. I've studied it, been tested on it & continue to be a student of it. Likewise, I'm friends w/many LEO's & we converse on such items quite often.
Do us all a favor & do more research if you plan to have debates on this.
Thread hijack off!!! (sorry OP, but I take our 2A very seriously, especially when it comes to my great state of Texas)

It's really easy. Seriously, the hardest thing is taking apart the dash.

I used one of these from fleabay

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Dashbo...518283?hash=item3d5abfb54b:g:6nAAAOSwf~JakSyP

Pull the dash apart and pull that vent out. Measure the inside dimensions of the USB and mark your dash -TIP: use the dot-texture on the front to help ensure it doesn't come out crooked - use a new cut-off wheel and a dremel and cut. Take your time, go slow, and start with a hole that you know is too small. Gradually open it up until the USB fits snugly. Another tip, be careful not to let the dremel's tip touch the dash because it will wear into it very quickly. I did that without realizing it and you can see what it did in the picture (just left of the USB). Run the cord from the USB to your stereo making sure they don't interfere with anything or rub any edges and your done. I disconnected the other USB under the stereo and connected it to a known fused power source so now it's basically just a charger. I'll replace it with a different switch altogether in the near future.
