So what would really be the main benefits of full OTTO? Aside from no Atkinson. Just power delivery?

Modded it so much it turned into a 4Runner
That's because they all live their lives 1/4 mile at a time.

Had a dickbag in a bro'd out diesel try to drag race me the other day. Kept yelling out the window "let's go, get on it" in his douchebaggy bro tone so I casually rolled my window down and said "What about my truck makes you think it's built for drag racing? Are you just that ingrained with inbred white trashiness that you think doing burnouts and racing to the next red light is cool as fuck?" I think I may have used too many large words for him.

Man... it's really tough to know if this is the same thing I've always felt during my shift into 2nd. To me it feels like a mechanical issue; almost as if the clutch is engaging for a split second, disengaging, and then finally fully engaging. Doesn't happen in any other gear though, and it won't happen, or at least it's not noticeable, if I shift from first to second above 3K RPM.

My guess would be a wider power band and better take off from 1st.

For those who use the power of this truck as it was designed (heavy foot) you shuold not see much fuel loss at all.
For casual drivers it will be higher.

I have none of this issue people are talking about. Either that or I drive it differently ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So how much interest is there in a full otto tune? Just kinda curious since Mat mentioned that he doubts it will be well received, which I am inclined to believe because most Tacoma drivers worry about gas mileage to the point where they should never have considered buying the truck to begin with.

I’ll let other people be the guinea pigs for that. It’s going to take some strong convincing to get me to flash to anything other than 1.04A

Definitely interested. It would be nice to have as an option.

    Some additional rambling on 1.04A

Fuel economy appears to have improved across the board or at least not decreased. I’ve averaged 20-22 at 65 mph which I think is pretty great. Sub 65 is even better.

I usually cruise at 65 for fuel economy but yesterday I bumped it up to 75 for a while. Last time I did this, I averaged 16 mpg. This time with hills and 10-15 mph headwind, I still averaged about 18 mpg. Zero complaints about that. At 75 the truck is running enough revs it’s making plenty of power so it’d climb all the hills in the Southwest no problem without slowing down. Running 65 there were a couple times I had to downshift to maintain speed. No fault of the tune, just monster climbs.

There’s also been a lot of talk about engine braking. I haven’t had a good opportunity to put this to the test until yesterday. I was able to hold speed on some 6%+ grades without issue. I don’t remember ever being able to maintain, it’s always been accelerating until you eventually had to brake. Sure it’s not like a big diesel would be, but for the 3.5 I think it does pretty well now. The real test would be heading over to Jackson hole again, that sucked last time.

I was also thinking along those lines, maybe mechanical but I can sometimes get it to do it in first wham I'm not on the clutch at around 1500 rpm. I didn't notice this on the 103 so that why I'm flashing back to see if it's still there.

The stutters y'all feel on shifting, I get the same thing on my stock truck. If I'm really getting in the skinny and slam it to second it bucks like hell sometimes. Not always...

It's tough there's a few sweet spots and exact Rpms that shifting is smooth. Anything outside of that I find the truck flips out. I think it's because the comp is geared for MPGs and it doesn't exactly know how to compute VVT, throttle inputs and Otto/Atkinson all at once and quick enough to determine that yes, i do infact want to floor it right now.

Edit: I don't expect any amount of tuning to fix that lol

I would be interested for the times I haul the trailer loaded. I would flash as needed and then go back after. It would be nice to have the option, but I probably wouldn't use it exclusively.

For me I don’t think I can ever get used to driving this thing like a sports car to have power on tap.
Especialy when stomping It off a stop from 1st.
Plus I believe have the power down lower will be better for longevity.

@OVTune what's your take on the benefits seen? Since we really dont have a concrete answer for that question yet
