+1 on the claybar. Don't use goo gone!!! I used it on my old toyota to take the carmax sticker off and it ate thru the clearcoat and left a nasty haze. If you Google goo gone there are multiple threads on different car forums where it fucked up car paint

Clay bars work really well. And beautiful dog! I envy your work and locale.

Sorry for an off topic question but I’m visiting the kootenays and banff in July for 5 days. Planning to do grays pass and maybe Buchanan lookout from Kootenay Lake before heading into banff. Do you have any other suggestions for the area to maximize scenery intake? Posted in numerous 4x4 forums with no response and formulated this myself after reading online stuff. Probably have time for one hike, and maybe a mtb ride also.

Thanks! -- I do have the BC backroads book for the kootenays, but with just 5 days for both the Koots and Banff don't have a lot of time to explore randomly. Hope this is the first of many trips though.

You should also buy the 3M clear protective film for your bumper, hood, fender, mirrors etc. It will protect your paint and it does work beautifully, this way you don't have to worry to much about clay bar/waxing etc.

We have these down in Seattle too. One year they dropped ALL over my truck and it took me hours to take them off. Claybars didn't do anything. I had to work at each one slowly with a microfiber towel and bug-n-tar remover. It was a really long process. Afterwards, there was some micromarring and I polished it out with my DA buffer. Good luck!

I've had good luck with the liquid hand sanitizer. Alcool type without Aloe Vera.
Good on Sap and sticky stuff.

    Hey Buddy,

You'll be okay. In my (very) amateur detailing career, I've had success removing sap by hitting it with a clay bar and some car wash soap first (90% of the time this does it).

If that don't do it, goo gone does wonders and is totally safe on your paint. I'd advise to seal that thing with Collinite 845 about once every six months if you're in the bush that much. You could go ceramic coating, but I'm not sure what your budget is like.

First wash truck by hand with a good wash mitt, rinse soap off without drying. Completely clay entire vehicle in sections, with a spray bottle in hand filled with 2 drops of soap in water filed spray bottle do 2 ft sections starting at the top, when you think your done rub your hand over area you finished feel for bumps or anything that's not consistent with smooth, repeat process until it is smooth.
If you have a new vehicle make sure you use a new bar of clay don't drop it on floor !! If you do drop it toss it !
When you have completely clayed vehicle you need to clean the paint with a liquid paint cleaner using an orbital polisher, make sure you do sections apply and remove in sections (DO NOT LET IT DRY USE SMALL PORTIONS AND REMOVE BEFORE YOU START ANOTHER SECTION)
When you finish the paint cleaning stage you may wax or polish the entire vehicle and you will be pleased with the results hope this helps

It's a truck. And I don't mind mine getting dirty. But sap would drive me insane. Personally, I might get a vehicle wrap in that scenario. At least on the hood and roof.

After you do get it removed, I suggest a ceramic coating...adds a protective layer and makes it hard for anything to chew through clear coating.

A couple of my co-workers had some sort of ceramic coating applied to their paint. They seem to like it.
