Nary a dumb question. I have a couple kinds. One is a gun like you linked to, the other is more of a wand type. I've been considering a new set of tips for the gun style though. I don't regularly solder things while doing electrical work. It only happens on my truck or motorcycle. Last weekend I helped @Arcticelf install a dual battery setup behind his rear seat. He had a pretty handy butane torch with a soldering attachment. I'll probably get one of those as well because of the fire aspect. I bought a cheapy Home Depot torch and it barely works.

@Arcticelf hows those batteries working out? Does the switch in the dash work? Let me know if I need to buy a new one.

I’ve wanted to try a small soldering torch, but just haven’t gotten around to it. The fact I wouldn’t have to run a cord outside would be awesome. I solder a surprising amount. I’ve used all the solder that came with the fun, and a tube of it from Home Depot. Just had to buy another tube.

The dash switch doesn't appear to do anything, otherwise it's all working great. I need to put a meter on everything and see what's going on.

Already ordered a spare switch, but I can return it if we don't need it.

I’ll try to keep the pics minimum..

First soft shackle tie attempt. Video turtorial was a bit confusing at the end of the button knot, that’s where I think I went wrong. Looked really good after tieing but after sinching it with the winch I noticed it didn’t tighten as it should as a ball, also found two parallel lines which you shouldn’t have. Was able to untie everything and will give it another go on some free time.. Working with 8’ of line, no relevance to the 8’ I made it to a 8” soft shackle. Size of the shackle is determined where you tie the knot, coulda made a 6” or 4”..

Looks like progress tho. I know what you mean, the end of the video is pretty confusing in regards to finishing up the knot. Good idea on tightening it with the winch now

We used mine this past weekend. Guy was high centered. We just pulled him off, not a ton of force, but the shackle held great! I tested mine at work by tugging on the bucket truck with the parking brake on with an F250 Ford.

Meeting up with some old navy friends. One I haven’t seen in almost 3 years, and the other a little over a year.
