Gotcha. Starting to make more sense. Sounds like a trip to the hardware store could have temporarily fixed that up, but not always easy or the convenient thing to do. I'll keep an eye out.

I was at a pheasant hunting event in the fall, and some folks asked to see the tent. I flipped it open and someone had half folded the sleep platform up to get better access to see inside.

Someone decided to "help me" fold it up, and shame on me for not checking the interior... the lid came down and "snap" the wood let go.

Honestly it's a solid design and I appricare the designed fail point so I am not looking for a new tent support, only a dowel.

I'd have fixed it asap if I were in a trip, but since days after the truck went into winter storage, I shrugged it off till now.

yes hoops bows whatever you would like to call them. the wood dowls snapped, might want to checks yours or be prepared to widdle a tree branch and jam it in there if you can get the broken piece out. then duct tape the fuck out of it and hope it holds.

I noticed in one of your earlier pics you have the water heater mounted inside the Habitat. Do you use it in that location, or do you hang it outside when it's heating water? Also, any idea how many showers, or how many gallons of hot water you can get using your propane tank? And could you confirm what size tank you are using? My Habitat is only 28 days away and I'm loving your setup.

He's running a 6lbs propane tank. He can get about around 2hrs of continuous burn for that water heater. It only ignites when water is running through it. So assuming he's heating at 1.5GPM, he's getting about 180gallons give or take a few depending on if he's using cold water from a stream or preheated water in his piping.

Thanks for the info! Do you know whether he has to take it out of the Habitat to use? Wondering if the heat/exhaust from the water heater would damage the tent or bed being mounted to the inside wall. I'm thinking not, but would love to know for planning.

I built an Aluminum mount for the heater that doubles as a heat shield... The heater vents directly up so if you want to shower with the habitat closed, the vent would be a little close to the ceiling/ tent material (although if you wanted you could easily build a heat shield for this too) , but when you open the habitat it is mounted such that there are several feet of clearance above it and we only will be showering while it is deployed for now... I have monitored temps closely all around and there is no issue. Here is the temp reading at the habitat wall (after running heater to heat water that was just above freezing to a little too hot to shower for ~5 minutes) This is taken right at the point nearest the vent while the heater was still running.

Perfect. Appreciate the responses! Hopefully you enjoy talking about your setup, cause I have a feeling I'll be asking more questions as I work on mine!

So you had the same issue as me with the main hoop and wearing a hole.

The new panel they sent looks like a chunk of wall material. But it's flush.

Take the aluminum panel from the wall, cut a chunk to fill the hole. Coat in carpet, trim out the edge, and call it a sleep platform.

Are you talking about aluminum sheet or the honey comb? Because not all sides of the habitat are created equal.

Also a "chunk" of wall material sounds like a balled up piece of material. Do you mean a panel the size of the original sleeping platform made of whichever material that you are referring to?

They are offering a group buy on front runner roof racks. Do you think one could be cut down to work for a habitat?

Pretty sure I would just chop the side extrusion down a bit and trim the anchor panel (mounting bracket). Any thoughts?
