    @OVTune

    Thanks Mat for putting up a new video showing the steps and emailing me the map files. Very helpful!

    Sorry for all the emails!

    I still have one more question and I’m sure it’s been addressed in the 900 or so pages, you need to flash both the ECU and TCU before engine start correct? Neither the video or instructions address this. But I could be wrong.

    Thanks!

    Isn’t there a power map for 87 and a power map for 91 currently?

    There really isn't anything to be gained on 87. Matt explained somewhere in a recent post that you can't get any ignition timing advance before getting knock. That is true for pretty much every vehicle running 87.

    Yes you are correct. Flash both the tcu and ecu and tcu. Then fire it up and let idle.

    I just thought a “power map” was what we flashed every time we opened PCM. What you’re talking about is a MORE power map.

    This is obviously not tune related (or even specifically Toyota) but I thought there were enough smart people following this tune who might find this interesting as it will be increasingly germane to situations like "fixing" the Tacoma. @OVTune if you want me to remove this let me know.

    *Edit* - I apologize for the rant below. I typed that without actually watching the video you posted. I thought that video was regarding the bullshit John Deere is doing with the computer systems on their tractors. The thumbnail is very similar to another video about farmers having to essentially hack their equipment so they can repair it themselves. John Deere either refuses to fix things, or uses planned obsolescence to force costly upgrades.

    This has been an issue for quite some time and has only recently started getting some of the attention it deserves. You no longer own your devices. You are renting the privilege to use them until the manufacturer decides they don't want to support you anymore. Take a look at Louis Rossman on youtube. He is actively working in support of right to repair laws specifically for mobile devices (cough cough *APPLE* cough). Apple recently had an update that actively disabled phones that had their screens replaced by a 3rd party shop. They have also claimed that a *refurbished* screens (ones that was an original Apple lcd, but cracked glass which then had the glass replaced) were "counterfeit".

    I’ve switched back to 1.03.
    For my truck 1.02<1.03>1.04. That is all.

    Would a custom tune be able to pull more power out of a 3UR-FE throttle body swap?

    Maybe if you go racing but I seriously doubt a throttle body swap would do much good on this engine if you plan on doing truck stuff with your truck

    I mean, I do like a good 0-45 drag race from a stop light.

    Trust me, I love racing the mini vans too, those soccer moms can really get ruthless in school zones but I think this is along the lines of doing a CAI mod, debatable on any noticeable performance at best and a hit to the pocketbook with nothing to gain as your likely result. At least a CAI gets some cool sounds from it for the money

    Makes sense. I thought I had read that a TB would bump up the low end power a little, which is what this truck needs. Seems, after more reading, that that isn’t the case.

    Well, I flashed back to 1.03, clunk I had is now gone. And the car seems to drive way better. Not quite the gas mileage as 1.04 but overall just better. stock Pro with 33s, sliders, bed cover and bed rack. Anybody else relate?
