This thread is clueless, 285s are pretty standard for a 3 inch lift on a tacoma. Although 2.5 inches of lift out of that set up is more ideal.

I ran Fox coilovers/tc ucas on my 2nd gen on 285s. Minor inner plastic fender trimming fixed most of the problem. Some cab mount rubbing at full crank and full flex but it wasn’t enough to bother me. Although the cab mount chop would be nice long term.

I upgraded suspension before I got to that point.

Awesome. I've found most "off-road" shops are tailored to Jeeps and are heavy with bolt-on products. Custom work, though standard for a Taco, is generally beyond their expertise. I look for "off-road shops that specialize is fabrication, custom work, and most importantly, toyota.

    Like, so many.
You think they would rub if you didn’t have the lift?

Not entirely true, they may not rub driving in a straight line on your driveway however. That said its dependent on your wheels and alignment.

What you meant to say is; Done correctly no trimming or hacking is required.

Hahahaha. A little hacking never hurt anything.

Maybe it works when you drive to the mall on your 22s, but it doesn't work as easily with 285s when you're actually offroad and don't have a CMC.

Sadly I've had the same experience. Jeeps are way more popular down here in TN so every off-road shop seems to specialize in them. The only Toyota shop I was able to find was a few counties over and they seem to only work on Land Cruisers.

Yeah it looks like mynewtoy has the right idea. I did a CMC and it still rubs like chub rub on a fat kid. I’m going to take it to someone who supposedly knows how to align an off-road vehicle. I’m hoping that solve some issues.

That hacking is in preparation for 35’s on a 3 inch lift :D

If you are that worried about it then get the proper lift (go higher) or prepare to hack away. Simple.

    Quit crying.

If they don't deal with a lot of tacomas it's not at all surprising that they don't know how to do a CMC. It's not like you have to do them on Jeeps, which is the bread and butter of most 4x4 shops.

OR get proper wheel backspace and alignment. Going higher doesnt make your cab mount go away, what a maroon.

285/70r17 with 2.5" lift, -12 offset and pinch weld trim worked on mine with zero rubbing. Plenty of trail time.
Like mentioned previously, alignment can have a big affect on tire rub.

    DUDE!

All you need to do is take off the tire, uninstall shock , put tire back on and have someone turn the steering wheel while you cycle (with a jack under the lower ball joint. You'll see where and when it rubs.
In my case (285s and 1.5" lift, 4.5" BS) it was more the pinch weld than the cab mount.

Ya, 285s on mine with barely 2” of lift and no cmc. Don’t mention mall crawling either, I use my truck. 17x8 0 offset. Shop was just not smart enough to make the adjustments.
