Arbitration blows. I was hit on the freeway, driver fled and I chased him down.

He lied to his insurance and my insurance believed me. Deemed him at fault. Went to arbitration and ruled it “equal negligence”. Dude merged into me, almost sent me into a concrete wall and it was deemed “equal”.

Anyways sorry just ranting. Back to ops thing.

If you're going to end up paying out of pocket, consider a used mirror from a salvage yard, carpart, etc.
About the bed, if the door tailgate opens, you could just get the damaged area painted & call it done. Not new, but I'm at the point living in a city that like new is a pointless goal. Each ding is just part of the vehicles story IMO these days. But right fix is to get the whole panel replaced, or if you find a used one in the right color, swap beds = happens; front end crash, beds removed for a utility body or flatbed..... Worth a look around.

Is that the trailer plate or the plate on the front of the tractor?

That sucks. I have Erie Insurance and they were awesome. The adjuster came right out the next day and said there’s no way you don’t win. The police report, the fact he was making a left turn, where he hit me driver side rear door and the damage to his car was the driver side front fender. Took it to the shop of my choice and had it fixed. Almost $10k in repairs.

It’s the trailer plate. They should still be able to ID from that right?

That police report (and if you choose to involve your insurance) will help greatly here. Who ever owns the trailer should know exactly who was driving the rig pulling it at the time or the owner of the trailer pays. This is definitely not a "how am I supposed to keep track of who was pulling which trailer" thing.

It's a bummer your deductible is so high. This is exactly the sort of stuff insurance companies are good at. Why don't you get an estimate (where I'm at it's always free) and see what this will actually cost to get it fixed

Do you have underinsured motorist coverage? If so, then you don't pay the whole deductible. Here in WA, it is only $100 after the insurance company gives the responsible person time to take responsibility.

No under/uninsured. To be honest in the 20+ years I’ve been driving this is the first time I’ve ever had to use my insurance. So tend to go for whatever is cheapest. Hence the $2000 deductible and minimum coverage I can get ways with.

Yeah, I go with the highest deductible that I can to save money. There is no way that I'd involve insurance for $1k or $2k, so high deducible make sense to me.

I've had to use underinsured in the past. College kid with no insurance rear ended us while waiting at a stoplight. Seeing what folks around here drive down the road without state inspections, I don't trust them to have coverage.

Got the all clear to take it in to Toyota this afternoon so we’ll see what they say as far as cost goes.

Insurance have stated the other driver has 100% liability and they now have the police report and the pics of the trailer and license plate so they’re going after them. Hopefully I’ll get my deductible back.

Can’t believe the response, information and advise I have received here. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to comment! It is very much appreciated!

Well this sucks! Insurance company states they cannot track driver based off the trailers plate. So I’m on the hook for the deductible.

But surely the plates have to be registered to someone or some company?

I would also think it doesn't matter who was driving, but more who the trailer is insured under.

I was in an accident with a lady who was borrowing her boyfriends SUV. His insurance paid out to me, not hers.

She told me they couldn’t identify the state on the plate so would have no way to confirm.

I’m not convinced. I’m going to call her back shortly. She caught me while I was ar the dealership.

I'm sure that the police can help you with that, esp since it was a hit and run with your child in the Taco.

This is also fairly inaccurate as well. Insurance goes with the vehicle.

Anyone can skew accidents in their clients favor. I was unit 2 in this accident and the lady’s insurance (who is clearly 100% at fault here due to failing to YEILD and pulling out in front of me) and their best offer to me was 60% of it being their clients fault. Even stated this information on the police report, and they still didn’t take that into account. Insurance fucking SUCKS. I was driving, I own the vehicle and it was on my GFs insurance. She wasn’t even in the car, and her insurance ended up paying us while they go to arbitration as they deemed the lady I T boned 100% at fault.
