Went out for a ride in the rain today.
I forget that in a well drained trail, riding in the light rain is magnificent.

If youre ok with the bike taking up most of the bed space, why not just use a tailgate pad?

There are definitely some drawbacks to the gate pad. I love it and it’s what I used most.

The gatepad makes it way easier to just chuck the bike in. But I haven’t been able to find a pad that doesn’t cover the camera (3rd gen). And no amount of microfiber or whatever softness a gatepad is lined with, will do anything but scratch up the paint given enough time (especially if you’re shuttling dirt roads a lot).

I like the fork mount in the front of the bed for keeping the gate clear, and for road bikes (wouldn’t want a feathery light carbon road frame resting on the gate. But then your front wheel has to come off and it’s kicking around the bed where your disc rotor might get tweaked.

I have both setups, along with a hitch rack too for when I want the whole bed.

Each has its benefits and drawbacks.

I plan on picking up this, its nice and allows camera use. And when I get enough money a bakflip revolver cover. I just don't like when shuttling bikes you could scratch the bike with the rails so Ill need to get some foam or something in the meantime(from experience with my last taco, tonneau cover, and tailgate pad)

I have this and while you can see some of the view, it still does not provide a full view, but better than what I hear about other ones.

I installed clear film protection on my tailgate so that I don't have to worry about paint abrasion.

hmm I saw one this weekend at a trailhead and they moved the pad a lot further down to where the handle was in the middle of the opening.

They probably didn’t have a tonneau cover preventing that. Good point though - without a tonneau it will probably completely unblock the camera. I can still see part of it though, to be clear.

They actually had a roll up tonneau. Why is that preventing yours? To be closed? Wondering as that was my initial plan tonneau plus pad.

Actually I wasn’t thinking or visualizing properly - the instructions for the dlx are to keep the Velcro a bit futher down which pulls up the opening up. I like the tonneau and pad, just that keeping the pad where they recommend partially obstructs the camera.

the fork mount holds the bike secure most of the trails are 40mins from my house, and i lock the bikes up of if I'm going for food after a ride. tailgate pads are great for shuttle runs a friend has one and we use his truck!

Yea man it’s a legit spot for riding and the culture there is pretty chill. They also have a lot of free concerts in the summer.
