    Hello all,

I recently bought a 2008 Prerunner. After a few weeks of driving it, the check engine light turns on. I got a code reader and I come up with P0456 $07E8 Generic "Evaporative Emission System Leak (very small leak)"

I was wondering how common and serious of an issue this is, and how it could be resolved.

    thank you

Is the gas cap original or aftermarket? If you have an aftermarket gas gap it can cause this code as most aftermarket caps are garbage. If the cap is fine then you are going to have to have a smoke test performed.

the check engine light for this issue comes on periodically. I will have to take a look at the gas cap later today and see if it is OEM or aftermarket. Supposedly the error code can occur if the gas cap isn't on securely.

Yes gas cap is a common cause of this fault.

My gas cap is OEM. I guess I can give it a little mock test to see if that is the cause.
