I talked to a very smart engineer on this site who has owned quite a few Tacoma's and trades them in every 3-5 years. He told me Toyota's oils have no problem going the 16,000 kms. I trust him and believe it. I had doubt at first and was going to change it every 8,000 kms. but I won't. He told me to look in to the statistics at Blackstone Oil Analysis which you can google yourself. If you don't trust it get a sample kit from them for $28.00 and send a sample in after 16,000 kms. with the Toyota brand oil.Everybody worries about the price of an oil change to save $20.00 I don't know why. If you think about the vehicle you were driving 10 years ago you would be changing it every 5000 kms. so that would have cost you more in the long run compared to today. You would have payed for 3 oil changes then compared to 1 now based on kms. But it is your own choice.

That's my point. You're willing to use free 'something', because it's free, but then will move to an overpriced boutique?

Since you are budget minded, why not just use a quality, budget priced, easy to obtain product?

Or keep using Toyota branded oil? Regardless of who the low bidder was this year.

So what maintenance plan helps reduce valve stem seal wear, piston ring coking, piston deposits, emission system failure, you know, the usual stuff ?

I couldn't tell you that. You should direct that question to the real Toyota Technicians on this site. Their ears might be open and answer the question for you.

Pretty sure we have no world class Tribologists on this forum so any answer would be moot, unless you choose to believe marketing hype. I work with fluids in my profession and believe me, unless you use the same oil for thousands of hours and then tear down your engine or transmission for inspection, you won't know. Same oil, 10K hours.

I had this oil in my Amazon cart listed at $15.00 The next day I went to buy it the price shot up to $23.00

Amazon algo's raised the price of the oil over 50% in 24 hours. They lost the sale. Dumb algo's control everything nowadays. 70% of all stocks are now bought and sold by dumb algo's .

Point is, the Toyota oil is good enough for me, but after the warranty period I will do my own with Amzoil.

I know what you mean. I had the "missing" cabside bed rail in my wish list for weeks, put it in my cart, and it went up to $48 from $42. I bought it anyway, but the day I got the delivery notice, I saw it dropped to $34!!! I was pissed!

HAHAHA! I was following along on your attachment until I got to the temperature portion and especially the "cost" per 11K miles part... seriously man, that sheet is Amsoil's marketing team, not a "3rd party independent lab" nonsense! Who paid for the test? That's easy, Amsoil!
    Marketing hype, nothing else.

No doubt the pricing is way off. I'm no fan of Amsoil and their multi level marketing - Mary Kaye style sales. I just bought a 5 quart jug of 0W - 20 full synthetic for $19 with a $5 gift card included.. No need to spend more.

    Did I read it wrong?

The word tribology derives from the Greek root τριβ- of the verb τρίβω, tribo, "I rub" in classic Greek, and the suffix -logy from -λογία, -logia"study of", "knowledge of". Peter Jost coined the word in 1966,[1] in the eponymous report which highlighted the cost of friction, wear and corrosion to the UK economy.[2]

Bro I rub ALL DAY. Plus I’m world class.

Why do you think I needed a nap.
