Crazy Leak from the Rear end overnight

Why is a traction bar needed for a 3rd gen? Is it pounding the pavement with that high hp? Tired of trying to do a burnout and the wheels hopping around? Just curious?

 

bracket design is the issue. we never should have mounted it with that bracket. it never provided enough material to handle the loads there. so we're considering starting from scratch with a new design.

 

it's how i drive. i throttle steer a lot and put power down very early in turns. combine that with my tires which are E range and 265/65-17 and like hard little rocks, and you get plenty of traction challenges. i live to drive like this, it's the most fun thing i do. the trac bar helps with early throttle in the turns significantly. firms up some of the rear handling slop as well.

and btw i never said anything is "needed" for anything. it's all preference.

 

I can appreciate your view, but I feel like the truck is more likely to understeer than anything in this scenario. I have an OR so maybe that's why.

 

this is the most understeering vehicle I've ever driven. i did some setup work and got the front to respond, but the rear was too loose for it. added the trac bar and a rear sway and I'm fully in business. now i have both under& oversteer instead of just understeer. which is the solution, actually. can't change the front heavy weight distribution. just gotta make use of it. i can lose the trac bar but that will compromise throttle steering. yeah I'm a handling junky and doing it in a truck with AT's just makes it that much more fun. especially when you're running 265/65-17 E ranges. find your traction or die trying.

 

I'm not sure what surprised me more, the leak or the sway bar.

I'm just waiting for someone to take a SR5 access cab, strip weight, cage it and put twin turbos on it. Not for me but I can appreciate the intent and will follow closely.

I had a aftermarket one on my 500hp 02 z28 Camaro. It helps for sure. Just really never saw one on a pickup truck.

 

Im right there with him! these trucks have plenty of potential when you put some thought and some effort into them... Plus, making a taco fast is way more of a challenge, more rewarding, and honestly just more fun than a lot of sports cars. Plus with a sports car, if you hit a pothole or something like that you're seriously at risk of not having a functioning car anymore and you can't really ever go offroad unless were modifying 'sports car' to include a WRX STI or Evo or other things of the AWD ilk. With a taco thats tuned well you can rip it offroad, onroad, over jumps, and wherever else you can fit it. Sure, its a little more expensive that way, but if we are comparing to sports cars then even all my mods plus cost of the truck doesnt even scratch the surface yet. A Porsche Boxster S costs 70 grand today, for reference.

 

100% agree and we are on the same page for sure. driving near the limit is where my fun is. try doing that in a sports car and you end up w/o a license. try it in a Tacoma and you'll find out what driving fun is all about and you'll probably still be w/in the speed limit, too.

 

sucks about the hole burned through the diff. I had to modify my bracket with a notch to go around the weld on the axle stock, so it would sit flush then welded her up good.

FYI people, you wanna know why this tracbar is useful, stick a go pro underneath your truck, get up to 20 or so mph in 1st doing heavy engine breaking, then stomp on it, Id bet your pinion moves about 4-5in upwards, axle wrap on these trucks is so SO bad.
