I made the switch and haven’t looked back. Also helps retain resale value in my opinion

Put bolts through it with fender washers and be done. Something is not square though if your fabbed holes arent lining up.

Edit: Ryan beat me to it.

Those holes in the rack are big enough. Start one side and leave em loose. Start the other side than tighten them down.this way you can wiggle things around until it lines up enough.

Also how many of those 2wd guys get a little taste of Offroad an jump in even more. Then you gotta go back an get 4x4

Again I'm an advocate for 4x4 even if you don't need it cause the one time that you do need it it will pay for its self

2wd here. Wish'd I would of got a 4x4 but at the time I didn't need it as I've never been off road in my life, always drove slammed cars/mini-trucks. I've been stuck once or twice but ended up airing down and turning on the locker and was able to get un-stuck expect when it was sand. If I go wheeling I just go with someone and make sure I have my recovery strap with me. Since then I've learned about my truck more and as long as you keep moving and on the skinny you can do quite a bit in 2wd.

If I need to really crawl around my SXS is the way to go.

that being said I’ve never owned a 2wd truck. Always 4x4. That also being said, my crawler hasn’t seen dirt in like 5 months :anonymous:

I agree, but I travel alone 95% of the time. Good piece of mind, same reason I carry a SPOT in my truck.

Hey guys, so I want the Tacoma for work, camping, reliability and resale reasons.

I'm a contractor, so a shell with the bed (6ft, not 5ft) is ideal for hauling materials and tools and then sleeping in during camping on a platform.

I'll be commuting and driving on the clock, so most of my time will be pounding pavement, but I want to be able to escape north on the weekend from time to time and not have to worry about packing anything more than some clothes and essentials in a back pack. I eventually plan to get into a kayak and do more mountain biking out of town.

I almost got a red '08 DCLB Sport RWD before I got the Equinox but the finances were just too much for me. I'm in a different position now and just spent way too much rebuilding the 'nox's tranny. Getting something more dependable is high on the list because I plan on owning this for 10 years minimum.

I wanted 4x4 because my brother and his friends got stock on the Rim in a RWD Chevy on a fire road for hours, and my last camping trip an idiot in a RWD Blazer got dug into sand that was only a few feet from where I had parked and when I woke up that morning, all the dirt bikers in their trucks that had arrived were unable to pull him out so I had to do it in the Equinox.

But then I started wondering if it was worth the expense thinking along the lines of the whole "10%" philosophy. It just seemed like the initial bite may never pay off and I wanted to know what those with RWD felt and if those with 4wd (that didn't wheel) used 4wd significantly to justify the cost.

To me the Tacoma is the total package, even with the 4 cylinder. The ride height out of the box is plenty for me (I plan on getting 5100's eventually) and my needs. It fits for work, it's simple, it's rugged, I like the way they look.

I have 2wd, there's some trails that I have been on where I had to turn around because I couldn't make it. Then again I didn't have any weight in the back and I don't have a locker. Barely got my lift and tires at the beginning of the year and they help alot.

If I could go back, I would. Then wait for the right priced 1st gen with 4x4. At the time I was buying I didn't need it. I jumped on mine because price and I just really wanted a Tacoma. I can't complain though, I love my truck and have plans in the future for it so I'll just patiently wait and work with I got. Off-road in 2wd is fun IMO just because you have to plan your route instead of just flipping a switch. To each their own though. If you can afford 4x4 get eeet.

The reason I had to turn around because I was alone and didn't want to risk getting stuck with no one there to help. Or else I would have hit the skinny pedal up the hill.

Yeah I don’t really agree with that. You can make cuts somewhere else if you want 4wd. That being said buy a 2008 instead of a 2011 or private sale instead of dealer which you could put the tax money you are paying into a private sale truck instead. If you want one you can get one.
