I have that MC08 total spline or whatever upgraded version reduction box with the 4:70 gears on my crawler. Its bombproof and you shouldnt have to worry. Other components on the other hand...

Quiet you! I don't need comments placating my concerns! I'm "done" upgrading my junk for a while. :D

Anecdotally, when I've been googling for offroad parts/designs/etc information I seem to find a lot of people complaining of broken crawl boxes.... Makes me concerned about their general hardiness.

Didn't wheeleveryweekend have an issue with theirs a while back?

Dunno, funny enough though, I had a similar thought after I got back to pavement I was thinking about what I would have done if I hadn't been able to dig the hole. The side of the mountain was decaying granite and I was worried I would find a slab/rock too big to dig up or break through under the surface.

I thought, well I could have whittled it down with the little ball peen hammer, it might take a couple days but assuming the harbor freight hammer didn't fall apart it would have worked :D. Then I thought well, maybe I should carry a full sledge hammer, definitely could have broke it down to smaller pieces with that.

I always carry my tools but didn't have a sledge hammer or torque wrench in my truck; ever since my CV blew up in Big Bear and I was fortunate enough to have Alex there with his 35mm socket, sledge hammer and torque wrench I always carry those with me now, too. Along with my spare axle.

My cooler has become my tool chest and I just keep any food/beverages in a trader joe's cooler bag inside the cab now, lol. Eventually want to upgrade to a tool box that I can lock to the truck that will fit everything I carry on the trail. I've been on trails with people that didn't carry any tools and have been able to help out when something simple yet potentially catastrophic comes loose like a drain plug or ball joint bolt. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around. Trasharoo works well too for carrying spare quarts of motor/gear oil...actually I think I might have gotten that idea from seeing yours lol.

yeah I thought about putting firewood in there but it seems like it would probably tear through with all the up/down and bouncing going on while on the trail. I let Rebecca put rocks and stuff she found out in Mojave in the big flap pocket and it wore the material thin after a couple days.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
My ex dailied mine like a champ. She was a high school teacher and drove a few kids home from school every so often they'd always be like "WHATTTT YOU DRIVE THAY??!?!?"
