You need something that minimizes vibration. I currently have my tire mounted vertically, but I have extra bed bolt d-rings and the rack to help out

I wonder if you could get some rubber grommets that will help reduce vibrations?

It's from a 75lb tire bouncing up and down and the bed rail flexing. It's a bad idea, several designs have resulted in the same issue

Yeah i get that but there are ways to help prolong the damages.... Either way i will not be using one in my truck and i dont plan to make anything from aluminum that will mount to the rails and hold a tire.

Maybe down the road we may start making things that need to be welded but that is a ways down the road. But its being talked about...

Back to another application here is a rotopax mounted on one of the universal mounts I believe, @Zac of all trades modified this one for me and next to it is the mount specifically made for them. The front rail is the perfect place to put them as the fill spout is right there. I will move the rotopax over to the specific mount when I get a chance but I was in a time crunch before a big trip.

Haha. I have no idea how you got that mount so crooked!! Let me know how it works when its full of gas.

So in this picture... the mount on the right will allow you to mount the rotopax vertically or horizontally. I am still working on the final design. The mount on the left is a universal mount, and if you order unive. The rotopax mount plate is attached about as low as it can be on the universal mounts. If that makes since. Sorry dont have pictures... Also if you use universal mounts and my hardware then the rotopax can only be mounted horizontally as shown below.

Also have another product in the works. Also still working on the final design but here is a sneak peek...

that price is for a set of universal mounts without paint. Hi-lift mounts are $40 without paint.

Out of curiosity would your universal mount be able to support a 4 to 6 pound fire extinguisher?

I would not see why not. If it can hold a filled rotopax, should have no issue holding a fire extinguisher.

Another use for the hi-lift mounts...

2 pairs of small u-bolts and a couple holes drilled into the mounts and was able to mount them to a Curt roof basket to be able to run the hi-lift on the side of the basket to be able to easily retrieve it.

May have to move it to the other side as I realized this morning that it hi-lift is going to be in the way of the antenna if I move my CB antenna to the rear bed bar tab...

I have mounted a hi lift to my universal mounts so I'm sure it will hold a fire extinguisher no problem.

Final setup of using the Hi-Lift mounts on the cargo basket. Pretty damn rock solid and does not have any play in it. I have the carriage bolts ran from the back and then a aluminum shim, washer, and bolt holding them in place so I can remove the hi-lift and the bolts stay in place. I had to file the sides of the mounts just a little so they would fit between the bars of the cargo basket, but not much at all. I can still use these on the bed rail if I ever need to remove them as nothing was modified on them to prevent that.

@Zac of all trades depending on how these hold up this weekend, I may see if you could build me another set of these but with out the holes cut into them already and just leave them blank but already bent up for me so I can drill my own holes and such to make this setup ever nicer!

    Also... another mount idea...

Hi-Lift Base Mount for the bed rail - a universal mount with two holes drilled in it and include long enough carriage bolts, washer, and two wing nuts. Or maybe even three holes in it. Two for the bottom holes on the base and one in the middle for the middle hole of base to help keep it from bouncing around...

I have some ideas if you want to work something up for it.

When the mounts are cut out, so are the holes. So i would have to make another design without holes just for you.
