Yeah. I think that $2000 price is definitely on the high end. I would shop around more before giving up my dogs, unless I knew absolutely that he/she was in a safe and loving home.

Yeah, $2K for a dog seems high (even for a pit). I'm leaving this summer and was quoted $1.3K for a cat and 2 small dogs (daschunds).

Did your cousin leave any of his other children behind? How about truck parts? I can help re-home those. Anything of value? Who the fuck leaves their dog behind?!? That's a family member! I wish I could offer help but my house is full of strays, no joke! And honestly, he shouldn't have gotten a dog if he weren't committed.... Damn shame these types of pilau fakas
Cousin sounds like a stand up guy

I don't understand how any person could feel differently... Why bother get a dog to temporarily fill some personal void, then leave the dog. I wonder if he would do the same if he knew the abondonement a dog actually feels when deserted by the very same person they viewed as the pack leader....

    "dogther" :laughing: good one. :thumbsup:

Brother Jason, I completely agree that our dogs and cats are family. However, we don't know the whole story. Cousin could be in some tough times.

I've had to leave my dog before. It sucked. One of the hardest decisions in my life. But, I was fortunate that my Godparents were kind enough to take him and spoil him rotten. He passed at the age of 11 (three years beyond the average life of a bulldog).

While i can appreciate where youre coming from, its really not the best way to consider a dog. When making the decision to own a pet, or likewise have a child, that should be considered up front, and if abandonment is even remotely likely, you should not own that animal. Even while children are adopted out when the parents arent able, those same people should not make that same choice/mistake again. I am quick to judge... Because if you planned on bailing on the family member when the times got hard, you should not have owned that animal to begin with. I take strays and i see people abandon animals they couldnt handle or whatever lame excuse they may have, its disgusting

We can now open a whole can of worms when it comes to animals and medical procedures...

How much is too much? How much of an animal and yes friend should be still considered an animal? And how much of a procedure (i.e chemo, etc) is along the lines of too much?

I love my pets, but my pets are and will always be pets. Definitely not disposable, but not an equal to my kids And my wife.. I’ll take a bullet for them..

If quality of life is an issue, euthanisation would be better that leaving them for whatever unknown. And again, I didn't mention any of those items, because those are family discussions to be had. Abandonment is not something I consider to be discussion. Just my opinion.... Don't buy a pet to leave it behind, those things should be considered up front. You can open as many cans of worms as you wish. My personal belief is this: I would consider it the ultimate in pet owning taboo to list abandoning said pet for any reason as a remotely viable option. Because in the end, you (not really you), the pet owner, pack leader, whatever, gave up. You gave up looking for a better option. Next time dont buy a pet you can't keep due to inconveniences or whatever. You don't play on burying you pet? Don't own one

Your dog would certainly take a bullet for you.... I wouldn't give up my life or my family's for a pet, but you can bet both your nuts that giving up on them is not only not an option, but isn't even discussed outside of joking that the yappy one is going to Grandma's for awhile

Honestly i feel like the attitude an individual has towards responsibilities such as taking care of another life, is a general thing. I lean that in the way that if they abandoned pets because it wasn't convenient for them, what would they do with children that are MUCH more inconvenient?

Thanks and I completely agree about the commitment to a dog. I have a dog myself and I’m already getting things lined up for my dog to travel with me....Not cheap!! But She is a part of my family and I don’t have it in me to do such a thing. Not sure what exactly is going on with my cousin and how this is not a priority to him but it is definitely is a priority for me now. His father is gone and I can’t stand to see him like this. All aside, I just want to make sure Thor is in good hands before I leave the island. Suck that this is happening and bad decisions were made but at the end of the day Thor is great dog who deserves a great family.

Why don’t you tell your cousin to get him ESA certified so Thor can fly with him to the mainland for free.

That’s a option but he’s already in the mainland. I’ll talk to his wife maybe she could do it. Thanks

Thought it actually would be a good point of discussion..

But as far as assuming the Thor is being “abandoned”, as someone said, we don’t know the story and if it is more than just the monetary hardship to ship rather than not. (i.e. I once adopted a pit mix. The humane society notated her as not as they said many homeowners insurances said they frowned upon certain breeds.)

So I guess I’ll just keep with the original intent of the post, seeing for anyone would like to adopt an awesome dog.

Edit: and even if the reasons were strictly monetary. Who am I to judge and pass judgement??
