I find myself poking along at the posted speed limit with cruise control on in my truck. I have a 44 mile work commute that's 1/2 70mph interstate over rolling hills.

With the stock Destination LE tires I'd routinely hit 23-24 mpg on these commutes.

Went to the larger (much heavier) Destination MT2 tires and the very best I get on the "driving like Grandma" days is 21.....

When I drive like normal, it drops to 17-18 mpg.

You are right....it does add up. Enough that I can get an additional work day travel from a tank of gas.

So what is your average mpg in the tundra? I test drove a few yesterday, just trying to decide if the extra space is worth the lower mpg. Thanks

Is Maine cold and dense enough for ya?

To be clear, I've gotten this on my morning commute both ways so I'm not just coasting down a hill. Usually I get 23-24MPG both ways but I hit all the lights and traffic just right this particular morning shown in the picture.

I see 24 - 26 MPG during my work commutes as well. Hghway, 35 miles one way, 65 mph... the MPG gets better with warm weather, if its below 40 then I will get no better than 21. If it gets around 0, then forget it, MPG turns to shit and the winter gas doesn't help.

Just completed a 250 mile road trip (one way) going 70-80 two thirds of the way, and 55ish the rest and averaged 26.2. 250 miles and still had half a tank left.

I feel your pain. I lived in El Cajon, CA for numerous years, got a job working on Camp Pendleton, and the 1-way drive was 1.5 hours, without traffic @75 mph. That was three hours a day on the road... I came home one day, looked at my better half and told her that I didn't remember driving home. I remembered getting in the Juke, pulling into the garage and getting out, and zero in between. That's the day she decided enough was enough and we short sold the house not long after ( taking advantage of the last round federal forgiveness assistance for the bank ). We moved into a nice apartment that had an attached 2 car garage and stayed there for almost 5 years until we could afford to buy a house again 35 minutes door to door. I can actually get home before by wife does and be able to cook her dinner! The Juke racked up a TON of miles on that long commute.

    22x12's
I get anywhere from 15 -20 usually at the end of the tank I'm at 16 because I still like to hear the v8 roar. The space is a HUGE difference, I love it and don't think I'd be able to go back

It almost sounds like we are driving different trucks.....yet we are both in '17 SR5's.

I had to take a second and consider a few things:
    • my daily drive covers rolling hills that has my tach running from 1,100 rpms to 3,500 rpms
    • I tend to use the cruise control at 72mph....which does try to maintain the exact speed on the downhills, too....drops to lower gears for engine braking....so the tach runs up even on the downhills.....arggghhh. I wish I could simply select a speed range for the cruise control settings.
    • I've swapped out the factory Destination LE tires with much heavier e-rated mud tires
    • I've bolted on rails and such that added weight
    • made changes to the exhaust that has me still in the honeymoon stages where I'll goose it sometimes and enjoy the noise.....likely will add a TRD CAI just for the sound....in theory both should help my MPG...but the loose nut behind the steering wheel tends to prevent that aspect from showing up just yet.
All that being said....it was no mystery last night when I fueled up my Taco. I noted that I was getting the same mileage I used to get in the truck I drove the past 11 years before buying the Taco six months ago...2017 Nissan Frontier DC 4WD MT with Destination AT tires (I ran two sets on this after wearing out the factory tires quickly....they did great for me....over 50,000 miles per set).

I've only logged about 2/3 my miles on Fuelly.

Interesting results after the two notes listed there in early March.....predictable impact.

I've got no complaints. I'm diving a vehicle that I thoroughly enjoy and it has the offroad capability to do everything within the range of what I need it to do.....as well as turn in some 20 mpg commutes when I drive conservitably.

    All is well.

Seeing all 3 of those gas gauge needles on E make me want to:goingcrazy:

I wish my truck got these #s. I typically get 20ish or so, but on Guam it's a lot of stop-and-go and people driving under the speed limit with rolling roadblocks... MPGs take a hit.

I can get 24mpg on a tank if I drive like a grandpa with my 2.7. I was pretty proud of it recently when I towed a trailer with an 800lb tractor/mower and 300lb deck in the bed for 200miles. Prolly 2000lbs total counting the trailer weight. Filled up at 350 miles and got 20.1mpg.

Not bad, if I drive 55, I an routinely get that hitting 60% of my lights to work green.
Any more it goes down from 21.2 to 16(because of the traffic so I might sit through a light twice).

Recently I have seen a huge increase just driving it easy... Meaning I am not trying to keep pace with the fastest car in the line.. Just going my own speed while keeping up with traffic.

Now I want one. This is the exact mileage I get with my SR5 taco with the intake, exhaust, y-pipe, and 265s.

Mine was at about 17-18 mpg in winter, now I'm getting 20-21 mpg consistently every tank with warm weather.

I did see 35 mpg on one 3 mile trip back to my house from the gas station, mostly downhill with no lights :plane:

City cruising is the most economically. Try cruise on open freeways with out drafting and post those numbers. I drive from Lake Charles to Houston twice a week and the difference of driving @ 75 mph is 4-5 mpg.

Mine is slowly going back down, but I have mostly been making small trips during rush hour...
During normal traffic and longer distances I will get 20-22

    These short ones?
    17.5
