Here is Gwyn's dog, Utley (Residents of Philadelphia, and Phillies fans everywhere will get the name reference). Utley is a rescue, Gwyn has had him since he was maybe a year old (he's about 8 now), and he's believed to be a Cairn Terrier mix...

Getting Utley to sit still for a picture was NOT easy!

This is Sherman the tortoise (who might actually be Sherma the tortoise because Gwyn doesn't know how to properly sex a tortoise and neither do I). Sherman was named by his (or her) original owners, and Gwyn's mother obtained him and gave him to Gwyn's kids without first consulting Gwyn. Needless to say, they kept him...

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Sherman's outdoor habitat (for summer/warm weather only; he resides in a kiddie pool in the basement during the winter and/or when it is cold/rainy)...

Gwyn's present menagerie includes a dog, two cats, a tortoise, and ferret! The ferret is male and his name is Pepper...

Pepper is trained to go in a litterbox and is well-behaved enough that he has free run of the house. He is able to live in harmony with a dog and two cats! However, he is a bit of a kleptomaniac. He made a home for himself (even though he has quite a large cage) inside the basement couch and hoarded the kids' stuffed animals!

Pepper is quite good at climbing stairs (remember, the first three pics were taken in the basement), and he joined us upstairs a short time later...

    And blue cheese sauce!

    image.jpg

Seriously, ferrets are naturally carnivorous, but Pepper was more interested in licking blue cheese sauce off my fingers than he was in the piece of chicken I offered him!

Here's the aforementioned Gibson A/C at Gwyn's house, and it turns out that it is a 2003, so she installed central air the year she bought house (she used a signing bonus from a new job to pay for the work outright). That means this thing is 2 years older than I thought! Almost years ago I scolded Gwyn for buying what I considered to be a turd, and now I seem to be eating my words...

The ol' Gibson is 15 years old!

    image.jpg

You will notice that the Gibson has some surface rust, along with the usual signs of wear and tear you'd normally see on a 15-year old unit. However, Gwyn said she's never had a breakdown or service call since the unit was installed!

    image.jpg

I personally wouldn't put this many plants around my A/C, but this is one of the better installs I've seen in the last decade or so. This is NOT a heat pump, so it doesn't really need to be mounted on risers...

    image.jpg

This unit's biggest saving grace, at least in my opinion, is the heart. By "heart", I mean the compressor. This unit's compressor is the venerable Copeland Scroll, known for reliability, durability, and quiet operation. Nowadays, scroll compressors are pretty much the industry standard, but back in the early 2000s a lot of cheaper units had reciprocating compressors. I am honestly surprised that NORDYNE product from this era has a scroll compressor!

I was 90% sure Gwyn's Gibson was a 2005, but my friend Mike from South Carolina can decode data sheets better than me and he told me it's a 2003...

The Scion TC is one of the best cars ever made in my opinion. It looks sportier and more powerful than it actually is, but it looks good and is incredibly reliable. My cousin had a 2006 TC that she absolutely loved, but it was totaled when somebody ran a red light. My cousin bought a used 2009 Ford Fusion as its replacement, but always liked the Scion better. She looked for another TC, but all of the decent ones were overpriced. She said that all the ones in her price range were beat up, poorly maintained, or both.

I've come to the conclusion that she was right, because most of the TCs I see that haven't been customized and/or turned into "tuners" look like this...

    image.jpg

There's a girl living in Doylestown who drives a yellow 2nd Gen TC, and not only is it kind of beat up (I'm thinking $3,000 or more to fix the body damage), but the inspection stickers expired last November and it's been sitting in the same spot for months...

You can still get a Coyote 5.0 in the F150, and I believe a new 6.2 in the F250.

    Well, I'm impressed with myself...

I managed to vote in the primary election, chat with a fellow 2nd Gen Tacoma owner in the parking lot at the polling place, take pictures of two different 1954 Chevy trucks at two different locations, and still make it to work with 5 minutes to spare!
