    Was it a 2nd gen or 3rd.
Did the 3rd have rev hang?

Agreed, especially the blip comment. Now, before any smartass comments like "it's not a race car" - hey, you drive the way you want to and I'll blip mine for downshifts.

Although it's very much improved over stock, blip response has always been hit and miss. Sometimes 4-3 can take "forever", whereas 3-2 usually nets an acceptably quick rev. The thing is, it seems to depend on how fast you're going too.

I'm not sure if the ECU can distinguish between a clutch in blip and a normal stab of the throttle while in motion, and maybe that's why the response is so varied. Perhaps there is no separation between the two scenarios WRT throttle/torque maps (that's one for Mat to chime in on).

I will say that the tip in from a stop is quite good the way it is on 1.04 91. You will notice, however, that blips are much more crisp when stopped/clutch in than they are stopped/neutral/clutch out. I won't buy that there's that much of a difference just from adding the rotational friction/mass of the transmission internals to the mix.

@OVTune, is there any evidence in the coding that the ECU looks at clutch status when determining throttle/torque etc while in motion?

It would make sense that the ECU monitors the top switch (activates when you first start release stroke) for things like cruise control..

THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT - JUST AN OBSERVATION. Keep your panties un-knotted.

It was a second gen with an auto. I noticed that the throttle input was quicker and it revved faster off idle.

Had it before this ,Manuel ,it only had DFCO.
    But you can’t compare the 2 .
You can only compare to 3rd Gen or 2016 vehicles or higher.
Aparantly this is not the only vehicle with a wacko tuning.

Actually, I'm quite happy with 1.04 91. It has what the previous test tunes did not (on my truck).

My observation was not about rev hang, but blip response. Just thought I'd take a shot at you for a change :D

My rev hang post wasn't necessarily for you. It's just become a pet peeve when I see it brought up for the millionth time because so many people expect this damn motor to behave like their 5.0 coyote or their turbo hatch. Like damn, have some patience lol

I prefer the Voodoo engine.. that sound -OMG!

Flat plane crank vs cross plane, firing order etc etc.. whatever it is, it sounds glorious!

Update on 1.04 87 tune (04B11) after about 800 miles. Took my regular NC to PA route (77/19/79) that rolls through the mountains and simply put, it’s just right. I think another review mentioned this...just didn’t even think about it. Performance satisfactory, no surging, shifts were needed only when expected. Stock tune was a terrible experience on this drive constantly shifting and never being able to use cruise control.

I’ve haven’t noticed any anomalies driving 1.04. I’m an aggressive driver and both performance and fuel economy are finally acceptable. Thanks @OVTune for getting this right. The remaining complaints to me are just diving into things that don’t affect normal driving. That said I haven’t noticed any of the “issues” mentioned. I am 100% happy with this tune!

He never said it would harm it, he said it forced the truck to continually relearn the process, which is ruining his long term R&D basically

It's too bad we couldn't get the same software that the Highland and Sienna use. They use the same 2GR-FKS motor and those vehicles have an instant throttle response. It would be nice it we could just a "copy and paste" that software.

majority of it is the same, just like the 2018 camry. there really isn't anything "special' in that ECU that makes it drive so different. The reason for the tacoma is a combination of the chassis, transmission, gearing, etc.

So, did we get some guinea pigs for the "no Atkinson" experiment?
