    So I thought this would be the best thread to post under. It has been incredibly nice out the last couple of weeks so I was doing some rolling with the windows down. I noticed while driving in my neighborhood that when I shift from 1st to 2nd (about 3k rpm) i hear a sputtering noise as soon as I start to accelerate in 2nd. Now I know that this is the same sound you would hear if you were in a higher gear than you need to be but 3k rpm is plenty high enough to shift to 2nd. If I shift any lower it's worse. Any suggestions?

    first things first...
    have you ruled yourself out of the CPS recall? that's the crank position sensor. it's a common thing going on right about now. you can check your VIN at 'yotas site.

    In the meantime, how about trying to double-clutch the F'er... I bet it's as smooth as a freshly shaved baby's butt..!!

    digidan2017, I am having the same issue you described on my 2018 TRD OR DBC 6MT. 2nd to 3rd is very rough at low revs. 4th to 3rd is just fine. All other shifts are fine at any rev level. I have noticed that higher revs make the shift slightly smoother. I have also tried to let the stick hang in the center location before pushing straight forward to 3rd and still there is "scraping" not grinding but just rough. I thought about taking it in to the dealer to get the issue looked at. Sounds like I will have to give it a while.
    I have had the truck for about 6 days and it only has about 90 miles on it (had 8 when I picked it up).
    I couldn't help but notice that you (digidan2017) are also from Mequon, Wisconsin. I am in Milwaukee. I wonder if this is coincidence that two MT trucks in WI are having the same issue.

    My truck has been steadily improving in shift quality over the first almost 1000 miles. It was very notchy the first couple hundred miles, now it's pretty damn good. Just drive it, ease the shifter into place, don't force it, it will slowly break in. And remember, it's a truck, not a sports car, if you haven't had a manual truck before you may need to make some allowances.

    Lol, I ground 1st gear a little today. Did a rev match downshift to 1st and felt the gear go in smooth but not all the way indexed and let the clutch out and ground a few miles of service life out of the gear.

    Replace the trans fluid with Redline MT90, it’s solved a lot of issues over the years and many owners leave it in for years at a time.

    I ran it for 130,000 miles in my 1st Gen

    My '17 TRD Sport has 7800 miles. Once I got pass 3000 miles, my 6 speed really began to shift smooth. Tranny must just needed to break in. Love the 6 speed. Between the tranny, and the engine broken in, it now has some "guts" in acceleration when merging into interstate traffic.

    Just subscribe here I will appreciate any updates on this post since I read it a couple of weeks ago buecause I was havin hard time shifting into 3rd gear, I gave my truck some time like a few of you guys recomended early on this post but its getting worst I have 3500 miles on it, at first did it occassionally but now is every time, Im ready to go to the dealer and wondering if any body has gone thru the same procces and if the dealer took care of somenting or got covered somehow with the powertrain warranty on this issue, I do have a 2.5 lift with bilsteins 6112 and 285's also wondering if they'll said something or void warranty because of these?? Thanks!

    Well, I am now at 9000 miles. I have not put a lift kit on, nor have I increased my tire size. My tranny shifts smooth. Possibly yours will get smoother. I do recommend going into your dealer and getting it checked out.:mudding:

    No issues here, all the gears fall into place themselves, except for the reverse of course. Still running stock tranny fill, planning to switch to redline in the spring though.

    32k miles here. I wouldn't say it is rough but you can definitely tell 3rd is not as smooth as the other gears. I also switched to Redline oil for the tranny. No difference in feel.

    I found this old thread because I'm getting similar behavior from my 2021 (10kmi) since new. The engagement to third when shifting up from second is occasionally crunchy unless I do one of the following:
    • Pause in neutral for 1/2-1 second and guide it in;
    • Pause in neutral long enough for the input shaft to stop (build up some speed difference)
    • Begin the shift at 2700 rpm or faster.
    Today, I made some mid-RPM shifts into third and couldn't summon the crunch at all afterward. It's almost like exercising the synchro a few times makes it grab better.

    @Aspen Thicket Any updates?
    @digidan2017 Any resolution with the 2017 or differences with the 2020?
