Where to get stock leaf spring u bolts

Talking to a guy who also has a 97 extra cab and he is having trouble finding u bolts for his leaf springs. Said dealer wanted him to bring it in and have them do the work. All help? Is there an online source for stock parts, hopefully at a discount

 

Have him bring the old ones in to someplace that custom bends them; when I redid the spring perches on my '84 Dodge it cost me $50 for the full set.

Most any Spring Shop unless they are Dickheads has them on the shelf or can make them .

$50.00 for a set (4) sounds expensive but it is a local market type of thing

Yup, OMEU53 are the u-bolts used for just about every Toyota, good quality. Those fit my 1991, they fit my 2008.

There are 3 options with the difference being how long they are.

U53 168mm (6.6")
U53A 185mm (7.2")
U53B 200mm (7.9")

They are all 75mm center-to-center of the rods and 14mm (about 9/16") diameter rod. The inside dimension of u-bolts for our trucks should be about 2.5" inside between the legs to match the leaf width and you should use at least 1/2" diameter rod.

For stock leafs you only need the ~6.5" long u-bolts but the longer ones are need with thicker packs. I used U53A with my Dakar CS047R packs and they didn't need to be trimmed.

I've also used Rancho u-bolts in the past and they worked fine. It ain't rocket surgery, get a good brand or have them made locally at a spring shop.

 

Keep in mind the price for the lowrange offroad U bolts are for an individual U bolt. So 4 of those plus shipping brings you basically to the cost of having a local shop make them for you (~$50 mentioned earlier).

That said, I'd probably still be able to order them and do it myself in the time it would take to find a reputable shop nearby and have them make you some.

If they are too long, just cut off the excess...

 

Exactly. Just watch that you don't get them way too long and run out of thread. If you think you'll need about 6.5" but aren't sure get the 7" or 7.5" but not the 12" long ones.
