David is jokingly serious (or is it seriously joking). Deep down he just wants us all to get out more and enjoy our trucks. His comments come from a good place, I think… But no one should take it too seriously and get their feelings hurt.

I trusted you with my suspension, and, basically my life with those sketchy spring compressors, so I'll trust you on this.

I say never again, but I need to replace the bushings on my suspension. I may get two sets, so I can have 4 compressors on one coil. That’s got to be twice as safe, right?

That's great that they're replacing it though! One thing to keep an eye on are the "extras" they'll hit you up for that are out of pocket. Anything else that's rusted on the underside may need to be replaced as well. I've seen lots of 1st gen folks successfully argue that if it's safety related then it should be included.

This is also a great time to have them install anything you DO want upgraded for free since they'll have everything taken apart anyway and it's a lot easier to slap new parts in there than to use something that's crusted up.

That would be a correct assumption. I know there are a few local breweries around and no places to go wheeling. Always nice to put faces to names...

Thanks! I have heard that Toyota tries to charge you for those things as well. I will be ready to argue with them haha.

It could, if they need to replace things other than the frame in the process. Although I will not be going down without a fight in that case.

I've been talking in the 1st gen forum forever about this so lots of stories of dealers that will ONLY do the frame, then say things like "Oh, your brake lines are pretty corroded, those need to be replaced. Skid plate is shot. Gas tank shield needs to be replaced... blah, blah, blah. The list can get pretty long if it's bad. Normally the dealer can submit anything that's considered critical to safety on that frame replacement as part of the repair, but some like to charge customer full retail rather than submit it to Toyota and get it back at the discounted rate. Also need to check and see if they break anything while doing the swap (seized up bolts for things attached to the frame) that those will be covered by the replacement.

I've seen some folks come out with zero costs, others with thousands of dollars in "parts" that they replaced. Best to confirm that BEFORE they do the work.
