    as for break in.
there was a link to an article posted a while back about how you should run engines hard during break-in so as to seat the rings properly. he went through a whole procedure for break-in on dynos, street and track. i think it was more geared to motorcycles but the principles are the same. and had a lot of back up information. hopefully someone will chime in with the link.

a rebuild in the kitchen/dining room. you are the man of men. bravo. once saw an artical of a guy who built a core buggy in his living room, he had to cut a huge hole in his wall to get it out.

Yeah, fire it up let her run for a minute then run it HARD! Take it up and down some hills, use engine compression going downhill and it'll really set those rings.

I read the article and it has good information. But seeing how its a daily driver idk how id feel about doing all that. Very good chance i could seize the engine.

I'm tellin you man, daily driver, hot rod, race car, I've had experiences doin em all. Not even counting motorcycles. I've built and helped build everything from VW panheads making 35 HP to a 987 HP Jet A fueled cherolet bigblock. Run it like you stole it, the only time I had a negative outcome was when I did a topend in an '01 CR125R and did the fire/warm up at 1000rpm, shut down, fire/warmup again at 2500, then shut down, then fire and run through 1st and 2nd nice and easy. First day at the track I blew that top end right outta her, rings never set and ran like piss. Tore it down, built her up, fired her once and got her warm, then ran the living piss outta her up and down the driveway. In the end it's not my truck and it's completely up to you how you decide to break it in.

I do appreciate the input. Im gonna do a lil more research on it and see what i cant pull up. The only reason why it scares me is my brother seized his truck and bike by running it hard for the break in. Idk maybe it was just two bad apples.

your gunna be really hard pressed to seize a truck motor. the clearances are quite large in there and your air fuel should be next to perfect with it being fuel injected. you only have one chance to set the rings make the most of it.

on another note. why did you have to rebuild the motor in the first place?

That does make sense. The Rod Bearings and Main bearins were jacked up.

what caused that? how many miles at the point of rebuild?

hate to see you put your fresh motor in just to have the original cause have the same effect to the 'new' one.
it has happened to me before with motorcycles where you fix the effect and the cause still exists. like changing a tire with uneven wear just to have the new one have the same problem.

Have to agree with AAlexander on this one too... lack of maintenance? poor supply of oil?

No it was all operator error, the toyota had nothing to do with it, and it has 165k. Anyways I was wheeling and hit a mud hole to fast which threw water into the engine bay and was then sucked up by my awsome K&N air filter. It however didn't hydrolock the engine it just pushed water threw it which made my bearings run dry for a split second cause it to have a bunch of lows in them. Thus causing the really weird noice i though was a light rod knock. Yes i have learned my lesson and will be buying a snorkle :)
