    Hi guys and gals ,
I received a lot of good advice from you all that helped to make sure I and the wife had a great trip to NY last year for a graduation in Manhattan . We drove last time ,and it was a great time with all your help and learned the Manhattan subway ,took the ferry to the Statue of liberty and had a safe trip etc. We had the best memory of (other than the graduation )of a meal at the Free Mason Abbey in Norfolk Va on the way back . Awesome place and meal !! We now want to fly up your way again for mid August 2018 for a day or two , for our 30th anniversary ,for a great seafood /lobster dinner to what you guys recommend as the best way to do it .
We are from the Midwest and ocean seafood is always very pricey . I have always heard that lobster and such is much cheaper near the ocean in the North East and would love to find a nice place to have a wonderful and memorable seafood dinner to remember that was not $15 extra each for a 4 oz. lobster tail , unless this is normal nowadays lol. I would love to experience a great lobster meal for $75 each ? with a big ass lobster tail with all the extras just to remember it ! I do not know if it is even possible anymore but in the Midwest they do not even list the prices . It is always listed as "market price" on the menus . I do not really like lobster unless it is smothered in butter and then it is OK at best for me ,but the wife does , and this is all for her . (30 years married putting up with me) !
We plan on flying to wherever ,and maybe renting a car for a day or two , and the cost of the trip is for the memory , but to me getting a great deal for a seafood dinner the way the locals do for a special day is the key .

Can you help this brother out?

I don't eat too much lobster, but Maine is a good place for those craving a good lobster dinner, from what I hear.

I can, if the trip is in Maine, or NH. Might be able to make some suggestions if it was New York, as wife has family down there.

OP some more info may be needed. But f you want the tourist experience, Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park is nice, never been but Cape Cod in Mass is also nice. Many great local places is you not looking for the full tourist experience, but remember if it's summer time, it's tourist season around these parts, but don't worry they don't allow us to shoot them, guess it's bad for business.

    k, we can guide you.

if money is a concern, check flights into Boston or Manchester New Hampshire as well. Check for flights into Bangor or Portland. I would drive to Bar Harbor, spend a day there, then spend the next day driving down the coast. Time wise it would be best to fly into Bangor, and fly out of Portland. Then if you take route 1 south, you will travel better as most go north from Portland up.

lets talk more, I can guide you a little better. From you first post, it doesn't sound like your looking for hiking or things like that. If I am misunderstanding, let me know.

Everything you ask for can be had between Portsmouth, NH and Portland, Me. There are great places in seacoast NH and Southern Maine for right off boat lobster.

I agree, but the drive down the coast is well worth it, even more so when your not from the coast.

$75 each? Holy Crap! Lobster in a restaurant down here is only about $35 each and that's with all the fixings. I was thinking it would be cheaper up that way.

I think that was when he was in New York, everything costs a shit ton more there.

Nice restaurant lobster dinner looking over the ocean would run you about 30 bucks up here, I think. We don't go out for lobster, we bring them home and cook up a bunch and get fat and happy with Lobbies and clams and good beverages

Now that would be great. We love good seafood , but it is really over priced in the Midwest , and this is why the trip . It may cost me $1500 to get there but I want to remember a great deal on how the coastal residents get to eat seafood everyday . $30 is unheard of anywhere here ! A puny 4 oz. rock lobster tail is always 10 to 15 bucks extra for a meal . I guess it's all about the experience nowadays .
I have heard that some lobsters are better ? Something about male or female but maybe that's for crabs? What should I be asking for ?

we are not going until mid August and I will be researching this more when it rains here , but I want to make some plane and hotel reservations in the next few weeks .

If you find that flying into Boston is the best option, you might consider trying to stay a night or two there. There's a pretty good theater scene in Boston (Blue Man Group is really fun) and you could always try to catch a Sox game.

Personally, I try to avoid flying into and out of Boston as I believe the drive to and from Logan takes hours off my life compared to the ease of getting in and out of Manchester or Portland.

I was also talking about a whole lobster not just the tail.

Just get messy and crack the shit out of the shells. Lots of places will have some sort of directions on the place mats.

I don't think I ever have had just the tail, I want the whole dam thing.
