Speaking of normal...What do you all know about dispersed camping in Tonto NF? The wee man and I are passing through and taking the Old Apache Trail to Apache Lake then around Roosevelt to the 288 throughout willpw and Young.

Not really normal as it’s AZ BS 5.0 not the current one, just saying....

    Dispersed camping as in....?

But here’s the locs, and should have the rules:
    https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/tonto/recreation/camping-cabins/recid=35199&actid=3

Although it says the does not say the tonto forest these are the same rules for it:
    https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coconino/home/?cid=stelprdb5313448

Only thing going on right now is fire restrictions, so the fire part isn’t accurate.

Also to clarify camping in a developed site will need a pass, and the dispersed areas will not.

Only during the time of the expo do you see a Kia Soul with a rtt and 6"black pvc around the roof rack with a shower spout at one end. Wish I got a pic

I spent a lot of time up in that area as a kid and recall a lot of NF roads that spurred off the main road that we would go drive up and hike off of. I recall people would drive up out there and camp. It’s been 25+ years since I’ve been out that way and wasn’t sure of any changes or regulations that have been in place. I found the NF page and info but it wasn’t what I was expecting. I’m kind of guessing a lot has changed in 25 years IRT what was allowed and what isn’t now.

People ruined it 25 yrs ago causing the tighter rules

    Jk

As mentioned, fire restrictions are currently the big thing. I’ve camped off Roosevelt and potentially am camping off Apache this weekend...

The sad reality of this state right now is the lack of rain over last monsoon and this winter/spring. I have a feeling some stupid asshole will be irresponsible and cause a lot of damage this year.

I completely understand the fire restrictions. Was that way outside the Tetons last year. I had to use a camp stove to cook and s’mores didn’t have the same feel. While I may not like it, I understand and will comply with whatever fire restriction is in place. But like you all, we all know someone won’t and it’ll end up causing a shit load of damage.

I think we may end up at crabtree or Davis creek on our way through. I’ve been to burnt corral before and it’s pretty decent.

    Ummm....stuff and more stuff
Was up near the tinder fire this past weekend. It is the driest I have ever seen it. And the tinder fire was caused by an unattended camp fire east of Blue Ridge during a fire restriction.

I bought a propane pit just for this very reason. No embers or clean up. Most importantly, safe as long as you aren't a tard basket and use it in a well cleared area. The downside, more shit to carry and more weight.

this. It’s going to be one hell of a fire season this year. I have a feeling that we will be needing to do another supply drive for people affected

Yep, just can't use em now up here even since we are stage 2. Wondering how many people are going to get in trouble for fires this weekend due to the expo. Hopefully everyone is smart and safe about it.
No hate, just think it's funny.

Stayed in lockett this weekend to do the SF peaks hike Sunday. Arrived early Saturday morning and paid my fee, put up my receipt then hit Schultz creek for an afternoon rip on the mtb. Came back to my campsite at 5:30 to find two hippies squatting in it. They had all their gear set up and a raging fire going in the ring; didn't even remove the caution tape from the grates, just lit the fire under it. This is why we have fire restrictions...

Tonto homepage has same notice as coconino, exception for LP pits. I'll call the ranger station and get confirmation though.
