Hey folks, need a little advice. So I had my 40k mile service today at Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh and worked with the dealership on some new tires. They actually gave me the best price on a set of Yokohama Geolanders for my 2016 Limited. After waiting almost 4 hours for the work I get my truck back and find all four wheels are scratched and gouged. Obviously I’m upset so they bring over the service manager and review the video from the shop. Turns out the tech basically slammed them together rolling them to the tire machine. So of course they have to figure out what’s going on so we take pictures and I leave. The service manager calls me about a half hour later and says if I get my truck back there within the hour they would change out the wheels. I question him about why the deadline and find out they want to swap out the wheels with a demo they have. Now I’m not a complete novice, I ran a body shop for years, so I understand that my wheels have 40k miles on them, but they weren’t damaged when I brought it in. I am requesting either a new set of wheels or to refund the $1,000 I spent today. I really don’t think that is unreasonable. So of course I’m waiting for a a call back but obviously I’m pissed. I wax this thing every month or so and I’m very particular about it. Do you all think I’m being unreasonable? My stance is that the tech damaged the wheels by being neglectful so they should pay up. Of course after cooling down I wonder if I’m fighting a losing battle. Any advice would be appreciated.

If the demos are in the same shape, I'd take them.

I’d be mad. I think they need to compensate you somehow. Ask for a copy of the video while your there just in case you need to make a case and take it to court.

If the demo wheels are not damaged they are essentially correcting the error. Take the demo wheels or you will most likely be stuck with what you have. Your best option would have been to refuse to take receipt of the truck until you had it resolved or the order for new wheels in your hand. Now that you are gone and are dealing with the service manager they really are not required to do anything if he decides he is not going to.

I would go look at the wheels being offered, then decide how to proceed based on that.
No need to go in with guns blazing when you may be getting a practically brand new set of wheels, we dont know yet.
Now, if the ones being offered are in bad shape, it will be time to get upset, but not too upset, because remember, you havent been made whole yet and they are still holding the ball.

Be very careful as karma is a bitch. I had to have the tires replaced on an 05 Vette with only 15k on it because the tires were getting a little old. The wheels are a prototype set and very few sets were made. I raked the guys changing the tires over the coals explaining how rare they were. I removed them from the car and only took in the wheels. The guys did a great job and didn't damage them at all. 23 miles after they were back on the car my father in law nailed a curb and destroyed one beyond repair. I had to then buy a used set of takeoffs and take those prototype wheels in and have the same guys mount the tires to the other wheels. I felt like a dick!

You paid a grand for your 40k mike service?!
Good lord. What kind of work did they do besides change the oil, rotate tires, replace carbon air filter, and engine oil filter? I would be pissed after spending that much for service. If the demo wheels are in immaculate condition I would take them or ask them to replace all 4 new wheels with a set with no damage.

40k miles? The demo probably has less and may be in great shape too. I’d eat crow and be nice about asking to see if they are clean, else ask them for help finding used or demo replacement ones that are. Seriously, you have a lot of miles on the originals and it sounds like they were willing to work with you - good shops are worth keeping.

I'd bought the same great Michelin LTX/MS....Any particular reason you didn't replace your original tires with another set of the same?

It's the basic 5 spoke that the C6 got in chrome. I have one of the first coupe's so it has all kinds of little differences. IE to unlock the hatch I don't have a key that slides out of the fob. It just has a lock assembly hidden above the plate and the ignition key operates it. As for the wheels GM had some commissioned before they finalised the design of the wheels that were made in Ohio and each one was forged and numbered and even marked to what corner of the car they were going on, and actually hand engraved. I ended up with a set of those and the ones that went into production were actually manufactured in Italy. The chrome is much worse quality on the Italian ones and also the spoke ended up being about .20 of an inch more narrow with a little more bevel than the 5 sets that were commissioned in Ohio. To the naked eye it is hard to tell the difference but they are much different.

Not every dealship is incompetent. Some actually do good work and can be trusted.

Also this could have happened and any tire store...it wasn't the dealership that messed up it was the lazy tech who didn't pay attention.

LKQ man. Nobody cares if they were perfect, they had 40K miles and two years on them. The best you could do is Like Kind and Quality. Shouda taken the demo wheels even with a nick or two.

    Good luck!

I agree with 4x4 Taco....was the techs fault..shit happens. I take my truck to the dealer for service and haven't had a problem yet...not all dealerships suck. So I really didn't learn to much about dealerships from this post :boink:
