2016 Tacoma 4 Door Off Road
Hi everyone. New member here. I have a 2016 4 door Tacoma (Off Road edition, 6 spd manual trans) and plan on upgrading the speakers - front doors, rear doors, and dash tweeters. I have read a few threads on this site and elsewhere. A lot of great/helpful info out there.

My main questions revolve around the tweeters:

    - I read where the Subaru OEM Kicker tweeters fit the Tacoma. No harness adapter needed and the holes match up. Does anyone know if they fit the 2016 year model?

    - I also saw a site that recommends removing the negative terminal from the battery to ensure the airbag does not inflate when removing that panel. Is this necessary?

Anyway, this is such a cool site and I'm glad I found it. Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again...

When I switched out my speakers I removed the negative from the battery. Also, I have a 17 and the tweakers worked fine so you’ll be good with the 16

Don’t know if taking off the negative was necessary but I did it anyway

Welcome to the tribe! So long as you don't mind parting with cash, this is a fun place to be :)

I'd start here and yes would recommend disconnecting the negative battery cable anytime you're messing w/ electrical. I've done things without disconnecting it with no issues (cleaning MAF sensor) or something but as a rule you're just introducing risk for no reason.

Onto the speakers, the thread I started many months ago is still alive and strong and the speakers in the OP are good as ever and generally pretty cheap. I had a loaner '18 last week while mine was getting warranty work done and even with the JBL system I far prefer this "cheap" speaker setup which included the tweeters. So much fuller sound with good bass response from the Kicker 6x9s. Can't recommend enough and while you're in there the cheap Noico sound deadener isn't a bad idea at least for the front doors!

If you have issues head to that thread and folks will jump in

:amen: I did this, definitely one of the better quality of life mods I've done! The tweeters alone make an enormous difference paired with the speaker upgrade, it's like a personal concert!

Kicker Tweeter install update: After finally getting up the nerve I installed the Kicker tweeters. WOW! You all were right about the improvement. What an improvement, especially at low volume. The Kickers are so much clearer/cleaner than the factory tweetes. Next will be the door speakers.

Thanks again to all for the moral support.

If you're impressed by the tweeters, you're going to be really happy with the doors. I barely noticed the tweeters, but the doors blew me away. So much better.

I didn't have the same reaction. The tweeters were a huge upgrade, but the door speakers were just meh. As a follow up, I've got the Noico sound deadening to go back and do. If that doesn't help, I'll add a small amp to drive them a little harder. Then I might add a sub

I've heard that a couple times. I had Stinger fast Ring's installed with mine. I haven't read about anyone else doing it yet. I'm wondering if that's making a big difference for me? Its basically just foam between the magnet and door panel, so maybe it really does work. I think it's like $25.
