You need to take in to consideration gas,Food, and time you could be working. I prolly wouldnt go anything thats going to cost me over 500-1000 bucks. It also might be cheaper to Fly/Bus/Train to it one-way and drive it back. But you have to be sure its the one you want if you go that far. But in all honesty you should be able to convince a dealer if you tell him you'd rather go here for 1500 cheaper,or atleast keep shopping around near you tell you find 1500 cheaper

I drove 4 hours to get mine, but it was $2,500 in savings.

It was into a different sales region where their prices were lower and the rebate was higher, as such no dealer in this region could even consider matching it.

lol this question was made for me! I drove 600 miles to save almost exactly $1,500.

We also used the trip as an excuse to go camping and hiking in an area of the country we had never seen before - an awesome way to use your new truck the day you take possession of it!

Why don't you try to haggle with the closer dealer? Let them think you have no problem driving the distance for the better deal. They may work with you..

    Here are my options:

    a. Locally = X
    b. 237 miles = X-$1,167
    c. 298 miles = X-$1,605
    d. 858 miles = X-$2,677

I'm leaning towards option C. D just seems like it would be too much of a hassle, but the extra $1,100 would be nice. I guess it would be only $800 or $900 since I'd need to fly.

Crazy to think the dealerships could have the same product with such an array of pricing?!?!?

Local dealers won't budge! I've tried... I guess there's just a limited supply of Tacomas right now, that they think they can hold their ground. They're probably right.

As far as I could before gas cost more than the savings itself. I would have to atleast still save $500 bucks.

This is a great idea, but be forewarned some dealers won't budge. I found an identical truck to mine about 50 miles away, and emailed the dealer with a link to the truck 600 miles away that I was prepared to buy so they knew I wasn't lying. I offered to pay $500 more than the truck 600 miles away. Their reply, and I quote, was "Well, you better get on the road and go get it, because we won't match it."

Funny thing was, I kept up on that truck, and they kept discounting it until it eventually was less than I paid. Didn't bother me in the least. I got a great truck with 6k on it for a very fair price, and had a great experience with the dealer. Plus, the other truck had Dunflops on it that would have required replacing right away. :)

My local dealer has huge markups on their Toyotas, so I drove about an hour and saved thousands of dollars. I was worth it to me. For 1500 in savings, I would drive pretty far.

I'm guessing you're going to asheville or hendersonville. I got mine in Hendersonville but they did the same prices as Asheville on a configuration asheville didn't even have in stick.

Both of those dealerships are outstanding. Keep in mind hendersonville will flex their price some while asheville is pretty much set in stone.

Also the factory rebates in June and especially July and after are better than the ones now.

well...200 miles is roughly 3 hours of driving
the first two out of area buys would cost you the gas in the tank and leave a little
the last option, would cost you ~$95 in gas in addition to the possible 15 hours of driving.
what cities are you looking at..??
what are there sales tax %..??

I wouldn't have to pay sales tax in the cities/states other than my home state of NC. So, it's 3% no matter where I buy the vehicle.
