I got this off another site, another example of Responsible Americans surviving on their own.

The Nashville Flood, No Looting, No Riots.Nothing like New Orleans ... Why??

No $2000 FEMA gift cards,no whining about the kind of free food being handed out.No bitching about just free water to drink and no pop or beer.No rioting, looting or killings.Very little media coverage. Why?Because the people of Tennessee, although being knocked down got up and took care of their own. Why?Because they are not a bunch of welfare recipiants waiting for the next goverment handout. Why?Because they are working class people who do not rely on the suckling tits of goverment.Different breed of people altogether, many of the same race and yet different. Why?Because New Orleans has become a festering shithole of deprivity, thats the difference.td

Well I'm glad to hear something good about TN! Good Post. I agree that everyone has pulled together great with this disaster. It's just neighbor helping neighbor and it seems to be working. I am about 1hr south of Nashville and i got to tell you the people around here are a strong bunch.

Right on Packer. People need to learn to work hard for what they want. Let this be an example to the rest of the country.

That's a really well done slideshow. It covered the flood more than the national news. Thanks for posting that.

New Orleans? WTF. Build your house below sea-level, wonder why it floods, and complain that the government isn't helping enough to replace everything the government bought you anyway. I really detest human parasites. If you need assistance during a rough time I'll help you out, but I shouldn't have to carry you for your entire life.

I live in Nashville. Fortunately my home was spared, but I have many co-workers who weren't so fortunate. A lot of people weren't even eligible for flood insurance, so most of this is going to be left in their hands. You're absolutely right! No bitching or whining, just good ole boys taking care of each other. This is a great town and I'm proud to be born and raised here. I appreciate your post and I'm thankful for the positive comments from those in other cities/states.

that's a shame about the flood insurance. Who would have thought that you need flood insurance when the water hasn't been that high in 200 yrs?? Hopefully the insurance companies along with the government will step up and help those less fortunate.

If you get out of New Orleans, the true cajuns also just rolled up their sleeves and got to work as well. It's just wasn't as good a story for the media. Just like you're seeing now with the oil spill, everyone just gets to work and tries to fix it.

Point 2: Does God have something against Louisiana? First Katrina, now this?

A note about flood insurance. It is a mandatory 30 days before it is effective. If you see a flood coming and try to get insurance, it's too late.

I bought flood insurance and it only cost me $348 a year to cover my personal items and house (less than $29 a month). A small price to pay for piece of mind.

Packer, you have a peculiar way of getting yourself noticed.

Great post, right on target. Bottom line is that the majority of the people are hard working Anglo-saxons who cant cry Rascism or discrimination to get a free living from the spineless Polticians in Washington DC, they are the ones that built this country not the ones trying to pull it down,or are crying about how much of a HASSLE it is to show a Drivers License to verify themselves, what a Hassle and Discrimination too,Fing mooching ungratefull, leeches.

Thanks for posting that Packerfan. My gf works for the state emergency management so she was dealing with the flooding and recovery efforts before FEMA took it over. All in all, I think the city and surrounding areas have handled the situation really well. the state responded to situations as best they could and there have been a lot of volunteers helping out the less fortunate. Neighbors and communities have come together to help each other out. It's been really impressive.
