What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I used a 1999 transmission when I did the PreRunner conversion in my 1998 truck. I found that all the electrical plugged in fine besides one sensor near the tailhousing. It was soaked in ATF so I am assuming it was for transmission fluid, but I could never get a reading off of it. I had to swap the sensor from my 1998 transmission to fit the wiring harness on my truck.

 

Yeah, solid little bastard suprisingly has plenty of power on the hwy

 

If I did my math right, I am getting about 15 MPG on my 3RZ. Could be because I floor it everywhere and keep ECT on all the time because it's so damn slow.

 

He has MT. That's why his mpg is better. I average about what you do

 

Ouch, don't forget to calibrate your speedo tho, they're off from the factory. I have my UltraGauge setup to correct my speed for me

I was getting 17mpg during a heavy haul, but yes 19-21mpg is the spot I've gotten before. I have a civic that gets me 35-44mpg when going the distance

 

The bigger tires don't help either, fuel economy and speedo calibration wise. I was looking at getting that Dakota Digital calibrator.

 

Yeah, either borrow a nice GPS or use your phone and compare them.

I figured. The fuel economy is just so so bad. I picked the wrong vehicle to daily drive.

Luckily my commute is only a six mile roundtrip everyday, so it's not too insane.

 

I'm running 33s tho... But before with the 265/75/16 it was off too. My truck was setup for 225/75/15

 

I average 15mpg too...at $4/gallon for premium in LA right now, it hurts

It got me around fine before that, could still hold 70 on the highway up most hills. SC helps a lot though when loaded with gear, and 80 up a bigger hill is possible now.

 

My truck came with P265/70R15 from the factory, so it's setup to that. Right now I have LT265/75R16. I used the TW calculator for tire size and if I'm going 80 MPH according to the speedo, I'm actually going 85 MPH.

 

I'd do a real measurement with you GPS, that calc is only as good as the expected tire measurement.

 

My father had about the same commute as me, which is why the truck only had about 75,000 when I started driving it. I put about 19,000 miles on it the past two years. Currently at around 94,000 which is the lower end for a late 90's model.

 

Finally got some extended rear sway bar linkage made by @Luv my yota because my old ones were to short and were brinding when the suspension would droop down.

 

Pass, that's about when I consider moving if the job is worth it. My commute now is walkable in 30mins or about a 5 min drive.
