    Ehh......from what I saw the "Overlanding" trend started back a bit before 2009, I got stationed in San Diego and started to look at west coast camping stuff and saw people on Overlandexpo and exeditionportal calling driving around on dirt roads and camping "Overlanding"......I just called it "car camping" when I was doing it on the east coast.

    Then several years later Instagram came along.....

    So, AFAIK bastardizing the term "Overlanding" started way before 3rd gens came around.
