I did work with Austin Pets Alive! when it was getting off the ground before Austin became a no kill city. We'd go and grab as many pets as possible from the euthanization list, talk about a last minute save. Or late nights at their Congress Ave trailer bottle feeding the baby kittens that had no mothers..... Yeah, I'm all for adopting before buying....

    Love ya, man.

And @WebberLander, I don't mean to come down so hard on you. I'm just one of those rescue freaks; it's what I would do for a living, if you could make a living doing it. My feelings about dogs are much more favorable than my feelings for most humans. Present company excluded, of course.

I did a google search for "labrador rescue in Texas"

I am sure you can narrow that down to a specific or closer area.

Those rules can be somewhat flexible. When I initially contacted the group in Dallas I work with:

    http://www.dalpal.com/

I wrote a long email, telling about my two Dals, the new fence I had built at my house, enclosing the back yard, blah, blah... I sent the email, then noticed the website stated they don't adopt out of Texas. I was in Minnesota. Three days later, they called and said they had never adopted out of Texas, but they had also never gotten a letter like mine. A week later, I flew down to Dallas, picked up Jack at the airport, and flew home.

It can. My first Dal, Pepper, came with papers. She was bought by a frat chick in Iowa, and when she graduated and moved back to Houston, couldn't keep her in her apartment. I wasn't even thinking of getting a dog at the time, but this gal I was hanging out with worked at Special Pals on Bellaire, and called me one Saturday, saying my name was on a 24 hour hold for a female named Jetta. She was the first of my 7 rescue Dals, and that number would be much higher if I could just afford the divorce!:rofl::rofl:

Max and Lucy, two of the three we have now, also have papers. We haven't officially "registered" them, as they are fixed, so there really isn't a point.

Little Jack, heading to Minnesota, 11/2/2002. He was 26 pounds, and the airline only allowed 20 pounds to ride in the cabin. I had to make him look small, so had him stuffed into this Sherpa bag.
