I would never trade my 2012 for a third gen man. Maybe like ten years from now, but the second gen is the better truck. Third gen drives like a car.

For those 2nd gens that praise that low end torque they think they have look at the torque spec on the new Ford Rangers 4 banger.
    Now that's torqie.

Smooth as butter. Plus more hp where needed.
My 2nd was like a bucking horse.
    Rotting frame, Flintstone interior. Bye.

If the driving characteristics between the 2nd and 3rd gen are a question, drop an extra $750 on the 3rd gen and get The OVTune. Makes the 3rd gen drive leaps and bounds better over stock, albeit probably not the same low end as 2nd gen. I own a 2017 with the tune and really made me enjoy the truck.

OP - 2012 w/ 70k mi and fully owned, in great condition, and fits needs (family / work etc...)? That is a keeper in my opinion. I plan to keep my Sport DCSB MT for looooong time and it is a perfect vehicle for my needs. I seriously love driving this truck everyday.

I personally would be willing to sacrifice a few HP at 6000 RPMs if they could give us a little more useable torque down low, but everyone is different.

These type threads occur every other day from a long time owner with just one post. I call bs posting actually bs.

For a truck I want low end torque over top end hp. The supercharger is $5k from Magnuson.

Yes, I completely agree the used retail in general is stupid too, which is why I also bought a new one rather than a used one a couple years old. To me $36k for a Tacoma is a crazy price, my brand new 2015 TRD OR was $32k. They bumped the prices on the 3rd gens, by a non-trivial amount. In this case the OP already has a paid for truck, so buying new vs used isn't an issue.

The only reason I dont have my 13 4x4 was I messed up and special ordered a 15 wrx limited thinking I could get by with my 81 Toyota 4x4 flatbed pickup . Love the old truck but no .

I'd keep your current truck and buy a beater one to drive in the winter. Save $30,000. Buying a new truck to be destroyed by NE winters is a waste inho.

Do we need that much torque? If you need more than 265 ft/lb, you bought the wrong truck. Get a 1/2 or 3/4 ton. Duramax -- sorry, you couldn't pay me to drive that diesel.

Wow thank you for all the suggestions! Yes, this was a real post... I have never felt the need to make an account for posting as everything I've ever needed to know was found by searching. I couldn't find anything specific to my question so I made a new thread. My bad if it's a faux pas. I do not have any mods, I'm mostly a highway driver and grocery getter with occasional off-roading to go fishing etc. To be honest, I probably baby the piss out of it too much.

I will definitely check out the new 2018 Sports/Pros and at least test drive one. My initial feeling was to drive this one into the ground but folks have been saying to me that I should just go new.

Hell I've owned Tacomas going back to 95 and didn't find this place until a few years ago. I was driving Toyota trucks before I knew how cool everyone else thought it was.

These are held by people who have never driven a V8. Just skip on by them.
