Haha no I hope not. I have been doing collision work for about 20 years now. His dad was a writer for us. He says he had been writing for 25+ years. When I give him a outside door handle for a Range Rover and he says what’s this. Really man it’s a door handle. Now I see where the kid gets it!

Well........it would help solve the mystery to know then laughs. Like maybe somebody said "Hey, Marvel Oil is good in the crankcase right? So let's put 3 quarts in it so it'll fool the VVT to rev higher".

Can you get to a cap?

With the pic you put up I see what you are taking about. If I can get on them / angle is another story but maybe. I should fill the cylinder with marvel ?

yea, give it another shot. Still have some?

Rod caps definitely look easier. One of them is bound to be handy.

If you do take any caps off see if they are marked. If you need to put them back on you need to make sure they go back on the way they came off. If not mark them somehow so you dont flip them around.

Since your on hold for some quality soaking time I would take a fuel sample from the fuel rail in a glass jar and see what you have.

Why waste time and effort trying to pull a bearing cap with the engine in the truck when you can just check for end play of the crankshaft and the rods?

    But whatever.

He can do both if he's playing around trying to nail it down. He said he's just learning about internals at this point. If it were a daily and had to be fixed pronto, you're right.

I knew an old machinist growing up that had some kind of contraption that enabled him to turn a rod journal in place from underneath. Used to take a day of sanding/polishing/checking for clearance. I think he just enjoyed it.

In these first two pictures, did you clean the oil off of the timing chains and out of the valleys for the lifter buckets?

If not, combined with the oil in the bottom of the pan, then I'd say it was run low on oil until seized.

Pretty much. Could part out components of the engine which are good, as well. More or less depending upon what all the replacement engine comes with.

    Yep.
He can drive to southern NJ and pick my 05' engine up for cheap. Has 140k on it, although, if I was swapping I'd want a 08+ (IIRC, head gasket fix) with low mileage.

Another possibility. It's looking bad for OP. Well, except the deal he got on the body. It will make a good truck again no matter the remedy. I wish I had the patience to do body work but well, I don't. Add to it I hate paint, any paint.

    Just me
I wonder? Back at beginning of previous presidential administration there was an auto buy back program. We were told that any vehicle bought back by the gov'ment would have a chemical pored in the oil and run to seize the engine so it couldn't ever be used again. Maybe somebody used that on this engine as a prank revenge.

Just a thought, it looks way to clean for a natural death. Even at that you would suspect some discoloration on bearing caps if they seized.

OP, have you tried to rotate engine backwards a little? Maybe something dropped inside a sparkplug hole (though I don't know what).

It was the stuff used to 'fix' blown head gaskets. It hardens like concrete would have shown up in the pictures.

I know the oil pan look/smell doesn't add up to what the engine itself looks like. It does look like someone ran something besides oil in it.

He has a point. Although I doubt the OP is that naive.

Get the mother of all breaker bars and turn that motor over. When I get hydrolocked engines I can usually turn the crank a little in both directions. If it’s completley stuck then you more than likely have a frozen bearing. Lack of oil may have welded that crank still.

Any signs of wheelin':bikewhoops:? Just a hypothesis:confused: here after reading all the posts and evidence presented thus far… Perhaps the kid went wheelin to impress some girls :muscleflexing:, it was cold out… he stopped at a car wash and left the engine running (to keep his girl warm) and sprayed too much water into the intake ducts. Any signs of mold/mildew on the air filter? Any signs of water in the intake ducts? The plug pictures are pointing to some type of moisture.

Like everyone else, I’d like to know what is happening inside :sawzall:. Start a go fund me… I’m thinking some of us would contribute just to know…
