Still stand by my statement. VW doesn't put their name on a Porsche so the point is moot.

You buy a brand to be exclusive (at least I do). If I were going to buy a Ferrari and Fiat put their name on it, it wouldn't hold as much appeal no? You buy a Ferrari "partly" because of the name and mostly because of what the car can do. But they don't sell Ferrari's at discount dealerships and if you buy one you are in a pretty exclusive club. I've got nothing bad to say about the Grand Seiko. It is a wonderful watch. I just wouldn't buy one because of the name. Again... call me a snob if you like. In this case the name fits ;)

Looking for some advice on watches... I currently have an apple watch but I am selling it as I don't use it enough to justify owning it. It was a cool trinket but I would rather have a nicer looking non-smartwatch to wear on occasion. The two watches I have come across in my general price range are the Jack Mason 42mm racing chronograph (https://jackmasonbrand.com/product/mens/watches-mens/racing/racing-chronograph-42mm-jm-r102-222/) and this Tissot PRS 516 (https://www.jomashop.com/tissot-watch-t100-417-16-051-00.html)

So does anyone have experience with either brand or better yet the specific watches above? Also is Jomashop a reputable place selling legit watches? Thanks for any help you guys can offer! Love seeing these nice watches

    I have a Tissot 1853 T-Touch Solar and I couldn't be happier. Highly recommended.

I can't speak to either of the watches, but I ordered my Citizen World Chronograph AT through Jomashop and it was a genuine Citizen, and exactly what I wanted.

Tissot is a "short list" watch for me. Swiss made movement and on the inexpensive side (especially when looking at Swiss movement watches). Known, reputable brand.

I've never heard of Jack Mason. Doesn't mean it's bad...I'm a watch lurker, every time the wife has to go jewelry shopping, in about 2 minutes I'm looking at that stores' watches. I would be interested to know more about them. It is a nice looking piece though!

Jomas is a grey market dealer. Which is fine. They sell others excess inventory. Just know the warranty won't be factory, but rather through them.

Good to know. They’ve got good prices on some watches. Sometimes even have best offers.

FYI, both those are quartz watches... ie they take a battery... not that there is anything wrong with that..

Thanks for all the great info! I don't initially plan on this being a daily wear watch but I'm sure it'll grow into that. With my limited understanding of watches an automatic is powered by the movement of me walking, correct? A quartz is battery powered as mentioned. So with an automatic if I don't wear it for days will it lose "time" from dying? I am not 100% sure how those watches works.

I am not opposed to a battery watch by any means but if I am missing the train on something far better I want to know before I buy my new watch!

That pretty much sums it up. I caught the auto bug and transferred it to the woman. You might catch it to in this thread

I understand what you are saying, but, the Grand Seiko has a lot of handmade/fit parts that the regular Seiko watches just don't have.

Here's a pic of my Seiko Word Timer that I've had for 37 years. Still keeps perfect time.
