Recs on who/which shop to go to for a steering rack replacement? I've already been warned by my HOA so if I work on my truck in MY garage, they'll fine me...bastards!!!

Looks like Toyota of Poway is out of the question.

Thanks, was going to text him later today. Just looking for other options since it's a bit of a drive for me to head to Jason's place.

I asked around about them too. One of the guys I know had a bad experience there but others have had quite the opposite. I'm 50/50 on giving them a shot because of this.

Right now I'm looking into TLC Independent in Kearny Mesa and SD Trux in Miramar. Waiting for quotes from each but might just call them in a few.

You know these guys? I work like a block or two from their shop. Went to them for some ac work in the past and didn't even think of having them do my steering rack. They're on the list now though.

I’ve been an HOA president for many years Rancho San Diego. Go back and read your CC&Rs more thoroughly. Doing periodic repairs in your garage is legally allowed. The HOA is most likely trying to prevent someone from either running a shop out of their garage or worried that you’re always going to be working on the truck. I would do your steering rack swap anyway and if they do fine you, you can always reason with them at a board meeting. That said, who was it that threatened you? Another resident or an actual board member? Find the president of your HOA, knock on the door and have reasonable conversation with them.

I can do that but from what I remember it does state that automotive repairs are prohibited. Although, they only seem to care if I'm using power tools or am in there all day. At least that's the only time I've received the warning letter. Seems like during the week its tolerated more since contractors are here making all sorts of noise during the day (I work from home at times and it gets pretty loud).

The letter was sent to us from our property management company stating something about another resident complaining of loud noises coming from our garage. I was working in the garage using a grinder on a Saturday at around 10 am (only using the grinder a few minutes at a time). It just so happens that my garage is detached and is located across another garage with units located above and behind it.

My neighbor is a member of the board, so I'll ask him more about it when I see him. Thanks for the advice.

Can anyone please recommend a powder coating place in San Diego? I found this thread but I wanted more opinions. @chelseafc1 who did you go with? How did it turn out?
