The save up and pay for it as you have the cash is the smartest way to do things. If you and your wife sit down and get on the same page with a budget down to the penny you'd probably be surprised at the money that is left over. Also try and pay those debts off early then the cash flow really frees up.

Looking for good deals is awesome I am always scanning through to see what is out there worth the money. You'll get there though it's tough not to want to keep up with the Jones' here. There are a lot of nice rigs with some big $$$$$ thrown at them. I would at least start getting some skids as they are one of the cheaper mods that you can do and it adds protection for the vulnerable underbelly and you can but one at a time till you have all 3.

Yeah, my plan at the moment is:
Lift > Sliders/Skids > OBA > Spare Fuel (most likely going Jerry Cans because Price vs Capacity compared to Rotopax is ridiculous.) > Rear bumper > Swingout > Front bumper > Winch > Dedicated Wheel set that I won't have to worry about thrashing > Bed Rack or Cap Decision > CMC > Bigger Tires > Locker #1

Then I should be plenty good forever lol Until I decide I want to hit some rougher stuff, then its:
Locker #2 > Regear > Potentially more lift (Although this is where my comfort level starts to taper off, because we start coming into driveshaft angles, diff drops, etc.) > ??? > Instagram Famous

In between is quality of life mods, like lights or inside equipment such as a CB setup, GPS(if I decide my phone isn't good enough), Ultragauge, etc.

After the lift and skids, I'll probably start work on a cargo trailer conversion, since camping is really what I want to do, just in remote places. Depends on if I have kids sooner or later. Kids = Camper, just us = tent camping.

 

It's an ongoing evolution. I am armoring up then it'll be stage 2 with gears lockers and larger tires!

 

I pulled my Polaris apart Saturday and found out that my front diff was toast, because my friend pulled the front drive shaft out to 'save the front end' but unbolted the flange instead of the end of the shaft allowing the front diff to drain completely and rust out. This is why you don't let friends play with your toys. Luckily I found a guy parting out an 06 and I went and bought his diff for $200. HE HAD A TACO AND A TUNDRA AND A FULL FAB SHOP IN HIS GARAGE! I tried to talk to him a bit about machining since he said he was a machinist too, and about his tacoma, but he seemed like he just wanted to go back and watch tv or something.

Too bad, would've been a good friend to have.

So I'll get back to the fourwheeler saturday the 26th. Then to Jack's donuts for the Toyota meet on the 27th!

On a side note. 05 Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI for sale. $5k OBO new CV axles, replaced front diff. I may or may not paint it. its the Mossy Oak Break-Up Edition. The plastics are faded though so its slightly purple camo lol.
It has a rear rack mounted storage box with Mossy Oak Cover that I never used. Somewhere I have a gun mounts for the front storage bin and a gun rack with case off the side if I can find it. Runs great. Under 500 hours on it. New Air filter, new transmission belt, all fluids changed. I'll grab a photo from when I bought it in 2013 off my FB when I get home. I'll grab some photos of it when I go back out to finish working on it. I may hold on to it if I can't get what I want. Last I checked it KBB's for 7k in good condition. Clean title in hand.

 

Wallet taking a hit on this polaris. Hope I can sell it soon and recoup a little of this. (even though I love my fourwheeler, I just don't have any time to ride it or anywhere to store it really.)

 

Yeah my motorcycle does the same to from time to time. Wouldn't think of getting rid of it though.

 

Wife wants to sell it for house down payment money.

Its given me some good memories. I just hope I can get what I want out of it. Otherwise the blow will be even harder.

Seems a bit steep. Is this normal? Crazy expensive to maintain. 90k maintenance.
I know the fumoto and pump won't be recurring but still. At the very least I'll have oil filters for the next 10 changes, can't beat $4.40 a filter.

Edit: just remembered I have to grease everything too....
Edit2: Of course, I may be biased since I drove a 3.4L front wheel drive car before this...

 

Some of it does seem a bit on the high side. Heck of a list though too.

 

Someone told me what the stealership quoted for the work: $600. This is a small price to pay in comparison. Also the oil I'll be running is rated for 15000 miles, though I'd probably do 10k. So I'm saving a little there in the long run.

 

Ordered my Amazon stuff. 500 miles to go. I'll pick up the rest after I get a little closer.

Also, the rest of my Polaris stuff came in, so this weekend it'll be good as new.

That price seems pretty fair to me and normal. I don't really get bent out of shape over cost as it helps to make the truck last a lot longer and run in tip top shape! Plus you got a bunch of extra oil filters. The only thing you got that I don't get unless it's leaking is the drain and fill plug gaskets, it's best practice to replace them at every oil change but not necessary.

 

I figured, it's better to not need and have, than to need and not have. Peace of mind that my plugs won't leak! What's really going to be awesome is the fumoto, since it'll make oil changes easy and mess free. I always hated having to wipe out my self contained oil catch pan, since the top gets covered in oil and grit. Now I can just drain the engine straight into an old jug!

 

Just get a skid over that fumoto since it'll be low hanging fruit for something to knock it off while off roading.
