Tempur-Pedic mattress foams are known to get hot, by the way. If you've never slept on one, be prepared to hate sleeping on it during your first few weeks. After that, it will be the best mattress that you will ever sleep on. Don't cheap out on your mattress either. Remember, you spend a good chunk of your day on it.

I've got a SelectComfort bed. Like it a lot. Held up fairly well over the years so far.

The tempurpedic/memory foams make me sweat a lot.

I found it was hard to roll over and get it on with my wife in the middle of the night on those foam ones.

We got a Select Comfort about a year ago- and I hate traveling now cause that thing is SO awesome. And easy to put together and everything.

Just bought a sealy postur-pedic diamond, and am loving it so far. Heard really good things about the select comfort too if you got the coin, but as someone else said, you spend almost 1/3 of your day in it....

The Hampton Bed by Serta. Whenever the wife and I travel, we stay at Hampton Inn hotels. We think that they are an all around good hotel. Anyway, it was time for us to get a new bed and we both slept SO well on their beds we decided to see what make they were. So I looked at the tag on the mattress and it was a Serta. When it was time to check out we told the woman at the front desk that we were going to buy Serta mattress cause we sleep so well at their hotels. That's when she told us that they are custom made by Serta for the Hilton hotels, but they are available through their website. well worth the money I think. But, to each his own. k20me is right though, don't skimp on a mattress! Happy hunting.

We had one of those demonstration things with Select Comfort. Although they are neat....there's a distinct separation in the middle of the bed that obviously separates the air chambers. That separation is kinda like having a wall in the middle of the bed.... you can't lay in the middle of the bed and you can't 'cuddle' with your significant other near their side of the bed without being ontop of this wall. No Thanks.....

We have a Simons Beauty Rest..... king size. Not exactly sure what model it is, but the thing is THICK. Has a 3-4" thick pillowtop (which includes a layer of memory foam). I think the entire mattress is 22+ inches deep. I have to buy 20+ deep pocket sheets for it. We've had it for a couple years now and haven't had any complaints yet. It was a change-over from a water bed.

We have a layer of memory foam in the pillow top - but I will say, the memory foam does get hot in summer & when its conformed to your body (position) and you move positions....it takes forever to get back into shape.
For example - a hole where your ass used to be will still be there if you flip over and lay on your stomach.

Defintely check out the Select Comfort Sleep System. The ability to adjust the firmness of the mattress is incredible and I sleep completely through the night unless I have to take a wiz.

If you look at a Sleep Number, the sales folks will try to keep upgrading you into stuff you do not need and this bed can be on the pricey side. The wife and I got a 5000 series for about $2600.00 but after three years, it is defintely worth every penny....

This is another reason why I bought the Sleep Number. Don't have to be right next to the Old Lady....

If you decide to go with a standard mattress and box springs, be sure your box actually has wire in it. I used to work for a mattress company and these boxes made of just wood are absolutely garbage. We sold Serta, Simmons, and something else. I liked the Simmons and the upper end Serta.

That is true and it does cause a problem If you and your wife have very different sleep numbers. I actually find it more annoying for sex. Her number is lower than mine, so as we roll around the bed and we go over to her side, it is like falling. So if we know it is not just a quicky, we just pump up her side and away we go.
