hey guys, I don’t pop in this thread much but I have something heart-wrenching to share.

I will most likely be selling my Taco in the next few months.

I just landed a job in Dallas, but will be living in Denton. my daily commute will be 80 miles round trip, plus TONS of driving to and from real estate properties (I’ll be doing real estate photography/videography).

I know most of y’all will say to not sell my Tacoma, but it doesn’t seem practical to hold on to it. I’d rather go with something easier on the wallet when driving 150+ miles daily.

would you guys recommend I go completely back to stock before selling? I don’t have many mods, but what do y’all think? also, what other vehicle do you think I should go with? I was thinking of rocking a Lexus/Toyota or Honda.

    Do you own it outright?

Going to stock is always safer, but you might post up on TW for somebody looking for a diamond in the rough. If you can keep it with financial responsibility, do that. If it’s going to cost more than you can handle, pass it to someone that will appreciate it.

I don’t know your financial situation, but I’d vote for a skeleton model Toyota. You can log business expenses on that and keep your truck.

Trucks are not good on mpg, period. I have several friends in the field you’re moving into and they all bought a “company” vehicle for it. There are a lot of extraneous factors, so don’t be afraid to share your circumstances.

If I don’t hear from you again, best of luck moving forward and don’t forget to smile!

I also advocate for a "beater" daily driver. 10-15y/o 4cyl Camry would be great for this.

But I realize that's not financially realistic for most people.

What have you done to your truck? Your highest return will come from a "return to stock" sale with a "your stock take-off item + cash for my aftermarket". Keep your prices reasonable, and you should do well.

Do you have a list of everything you'd want to sell?

I'm with the others and say you should get a cheap DD if you can afford it. When I used to have a longer commute (Irving to Denton), I drove my old 2004 Honda Accord. My commute is only 4 miles now, so I drive the Tacoma most of the time. Since the Honda sits all the time, I've considered selling it recently. It's in decent condition if youre interested in something relatively cheap and reliable.

If you want what most would consider a “beater”, I have a ‘06 Scion xA that I’m selling.

I do not own it outright, I still have about 4 more years of payments.

    I’ll be averaging $20-$25/hr working full-time.

I was also thinking about getting an older Civic, Accord, or Camry to DD. but I’ll be living with 3 other buddies and don’t want to have 5 cars for just one house.

I haven’t done much, at all, to my truck. BHLM, aftermarket wheels, fixing the block lift that the PO put on, and bed bars.

I’d like to stick with one vehicle, but if the price is right I have no problem getting a DD. how many miles on that Honda? it just doesn’t feel right for me to keep the Tacoma when I never did much with it anyway. I did some light off-roading once in a while but there’s not much in the area.

Welcome to the area. As most people said, if you can afford a beater DD....go that route and keep the truck.

Its a 2004 with 211,000 well maintained miles. It's a good reliable car and I've owned it since 06. I have been reluctant to sell it because I've owned it so long and has some sentimental value to me. I really don't know why as its such a bland vehicle. I figure it's not worth too much because of the miles, but 3 vehicles and a 1 bedroom apartment gets hard to manage. Paying insurance on all 3 sucks to. I really need to pare it down to 2.

I was wondering the same thing. I used to drive a Nissan Hardbody 4cyl 5spd, and would love a little pickup again.
