For those with a SnugTop Rebel, I have some questions

Hey everyone! so im looking for some advice. I've grown increasingly interested in getting a shell and have settled on (at least for now) a SnugTop Rebel. They're so expensive I just want to make sure I spend $2k+ well informed.

    So here goes:

    1. For those without the side doors, do you wish you got the side doors?
and if you did get the side doors, do you regret spending the money on them?
    • I like the look much better without the sliding doors, and although I'd get it with the pet screen, it seems like there's a sliding pet screen? so you get some limited access from the side. But being able to open the doors does seem really appealing to me.

    2. Did any of you purchase the automatic, lock/unlock rear window?
    • Not sure if its worth an extra $150, but sounds like a nice feature when combined with the pop & lock for the tailgate.

    3. The sportsman package, for those of you who got it can you justify the cost?
    • I know this is more of a "per living" situation but I have a few kayaks id like to carry and not gonna lie I like the fishing rod holder on the inside lol. I don't know if the one without the sportsman's package can carry two kayaks comfortably? If it can I suppose I could make my own kayak holders on the roof (drill holes on the roof?).
    • Also, would the regular model fit a rooftop tent without any weight issues? or would I have to get the sportsman package?

    4. Hows the quality?
    • I really can't believe some of the horror stories I've seen on shells when you consider how much they cost.

    5. Finally, what did you guys pay and are there any good dealers in Southern California?
    • I went to a dealer for a quick quote and the Rebel with folding front/side window doors was $2300+tax.. im assuming $2500-ish. So if I added anything else Id hit 3k pretty quick. Not sure if its standard on all models but it came with a small light and carpet ceiling.

If there are any features worth noting/purchasing definitely let me know. I was trying to be somewhat cost effective but if im spending over $2k I wouldn't mind splurging on some comfort features considering it'll be on the truck until the wheels fall off.

Added a pic of the pooch and my trail buddy. She will be riding in the back :)

edit: why is the pic so dam large lol

I absolutely love the lines on yours without the side doors but yeah you can’t beat the convenience of side window doors. Agh! Decisions!

    Haha. Good one!
I just prefer the cleaner look of the one without the side doors. But It would be easier to load my road bike and things if I could get in through the side

So I’m faced between looks and functionality lol.

I was looking for these in SoCal too, south bay area. There are a few different places that sell them used, but in super good condition. You can knock about half the price off for one of these, just have to be patient with color options.

I got the windoors with sliding windows, folding front window, Yakima rack tracks and it was just under 25 out the door through the dealer in Escondido. They did a great install and I'm really happy with it. Love the windoors.

Just purchased a 6"Rebel with fold down front window{a must}, slider windows, sportsman pack with capabilities I believe to 500 lbs. pro lock, roof rack rails. Purchased near LB. for 2500 OTD. Warranty voided if roof drilled by user. I do believe Leer now owns Snug Top. I do have leaks from front corners and rack, inside star nuts that hold rails. Gasket at rear door too thick and tailgate folds it in when closing. When I get some time I will go get addressed or not. check Leer and save a 100.00 or Alu-cab.

I just had a Snugtop Rebel installed on my ‘18 DCLB the day before I took off on a week-long roadtrip. On my previous Gen 2 DCLB I had a Snugtop Cab-Hi. I opted for the Rebel this time around because I liked the look of the all-glass rear gate without the aluminum surround that comes on the Cab-Hi. I did get the fold down front window (only way you’ll be able to keep the cap’s front and the cab’s rear windows clean), but didn’t get the windoors. I have a drawer system with top slider that I took out of my Gen 2 that I haven’t had time to install in this truck, so haven’t ever needed the windoors. The dealer I went thru had a special for May which included the upgraded locking handle. That’s a big improvement over the handle the Cab-Hi had.

It’s been raining on and off ever since I left home and no leaks that I’ve been able to detect, and I slept in the back Tuesday night.

My only disappointment is the limited view out the back the Rebel gives you. I don’t recall what it was on the Cab-Hi, but the Rebel is noticeably smaller. The rear gate latch system on the Rebel takes up 1-2” of viewable space leaving you with only 11” of glass as you see it in the rear-view.

I'm about to order the Snugtop Rebel with Sportsman Package, Roof rails, standard side window, key fob auto lock, and fold down front window. I don't think I'd use the windoors, so opted away from those.

Thanks to all that provided info here! Big help!

Definitely chime in once you get it installed! I still can’t figure out if I want side doors or not lol.

To me, the windoors are easy access, but look like two more points vulnerable for break ins. That's probably a dumb reason, since thieves will get in anyway - if they really want to.

Damn wish I saw this post earlier, I'm gonna be honest with you get the windoors even if just one side. You're gonna find yourself annoyed having to open the back and crawl all the way if something slid to the back.

I couldn't justify the windoors and I've not missed them. I keep a dock hook in the bed and use it to load/ unload stuff. upload_2018-6-6_4-14-27.jpg

I would have gone with a different one would I have done it again. Mine leaks somewhere and I think it's the windows seals - found out after a carwash.
But more importantly, it does not fit well - it is not snug. There is a gap that annoys me eveytime I look in the side rear view mirror. You can see in the photos below that the top overlaps the bedside and creates a skirt type effect. Am I the only one bothered by this?

I can tell you that mine doesn't leak. The overhang is a superior design as far as being water tight. The key is filling in the areas on either side of the front bulkhead prior to installing the cap. The front bulkhead has a couple of gaps that need to be filled. Butyl putty works perfectly and my snugtop is pretty much water tight. If you drive through a car wash, you may get a few drops on the sides of the tailgate.

I didn't like the cap's proximity to the stickers on the bedside panels, so I purchased new ones and moved them down an inch or so. Looks much better IMO.
