Even cars manufactured by a certain British company that I absolutely adore didn't get remote keyless entry until about 1994-1995!

I don't know if the quality of public education has gone down in general, or if it's still a matter of certain states allocating funds better than others (or a combination of both), but one thing I am noticing is that people seem to be less and less articulate both in the way they talk and the way they type. A while back, I talked about my biggest turn-ons and turn-offs in women (not sexual ones).

One thing I can't stand is a 20-something woman (or a man) who has the vocabulary and general articulation of someone in middle school or younger, and I'm not even talking about about people with intellectual or learning disabilities!

Another thing I can't stand is people who try to act tough, or "ghetto."

I briefly dated this girl about a year younger than me when I was 20-21 and she was 19. She was of largely Italian ancestry. We had a falling out, but maybe a month later she ended up meeting my best friend at the high school graduation party of a mutual friend's younger sister. She immediately developed a crush on my best friend and started being nice to me again in an attempt to basically get in his pants.

It took an agonizingly long two years for her to fall out of favor with my best friend, and we cut her out of the "inner circle" in late 2012. At some point in 2012 or 2013, she started dating this black guy from the city and started emulating him, most notably in the way she talked and acted. This girl started bugging me and trying to be friends again, and finally told her I'd had enough. She told me that "I'd better forget her number," and that "it was bad idea to piss off an Italian." She started acting like this inner city ghetto chick, only succeeding in alienating my friends and me even more.

James, I learned a lesson with my last girlfriend...

She doesn't drive and has never had a driver's license, she's never been to college and has no plans to do so because she "can't keep up with the course load," and she doesn't currently have a job...

What this translated to during our brief relationship was a girl who constantly barraged me with texts, even if I was working or with family or friends, and blew up my Facebook on a regular basis.

I politely told her she couldn't text me while I was working, but all this succeeded in doing was changing the content of the texts...

    "Are you busy?"
    "Is work busy?"
    "Are you busy at work?"
    "How's work?"
"What are you doing?" (Abbreviated as "Wyd" in her case)
    "Are you done with work?"

Unfortunately, her parents are our neighbors, and I drive right past her house on my way home unless I take a labyrinth of streets that takes me through two different neighborhoods before getting me to a different point of entry to my own development (a stereotypical "long way"). Since she has no job, doesn't go to school, and doesn't drive, she's typically stuck at the house by herself all day. She has seen me coming home numerous times and immediately starts barraging me with texts...

    "How was work?"
"Did you have a good day at work?"
    "Can we hang out?"
    "Let's hang out."
    "I'm bored."

I finally had to be blunt with her about being "just friends" when she involved her mom (who is still oblivious to the fact that we "dated" and even fooled around a bit)...

Oh, I've made a lot of assumptions about her based on what she herself has willingly told me. I know more about this girl than I need to (or want to) know! There's some stuff that I am not at liberty to discuss on a public forum, and there's still a shit-ton more that I definitely don't know.

She has a learning disability that she only describes as "dyslexia," and my neighbor who helped me install the stereo system in my Taco lives next door to her family. He set us up because he thought she was on the spectrum like me (that she had Aspergers or another high-functioning form of autism) and that we would get along great. Neither of us knew what I was getting into. I have feeling that she has some sort of learning disability or mental issue that her parents are keeping a secret from her "for her own good," and that as far as even she is concerned she only has dyslexia.

With regards to parents keeping the specifics of a diagnosis from their children, this is a sadly common practice that happens more often than people care to mention.

After you read this post, I want you to look up "Huntingdon's Disease" and read up on what it is...

When I was in a special ed class in my early 20s, there was a guy about my age who had diabetes and Huntingdon's. He obviously knew about the diabetes, but the Huntingdon's didn't manifest itself until he was in his teens. From what I remember, he may have had ADD/ADHD or a form of autism, but the Huntingdon's is what caused pretty much all of his problems. I'm pretty sure he wasn't even old enough to drink, and he was already going blind from this disease. His antics and general mental state were comparable to a senior citizen with Alzheimer's or some form of dementia. He could walk and talk, but as I said above he was steadily going blind. One of his most obnoxious habits was imitating what people around him said. On occasiins too numerous to count, other students (myself included) would find ourselves bellowing at him to "stop repeating!" Even teachers got pissed off at him for this behavior. He was occasionally made to sit by himself so he wouldn't listen in on conversations and randomly repeat what people said, but he never got in any actual trouble because everybody knew in their heart that he couldn't help it.

This poor kid never really had much to add to conversations because of his diminished mental state, but the one thing he seemed to love more than life itself was the band Pearl Jam. He also had an iPod and knew how to work the thing without assistance, and he had every Pearl Jam song on it. The teachers went out of their way to make sure this kid had his headphones on during lunch, on the bus, etc, so he would only hear his music and not be able to hear (and immitate) those around him.

Another notable trait of his brought on by the disease was his obsession with looking at himself in the mirror. There was a full length mirror in one of the classrooms, and he would spend a lot of time staring at himself without even blinking! This did not bother anybody. However, when riding in his private caretaker's late model Altima, the poor woman would sometimes make him ride in the back because he had this habit of playing with the sun visor-mounted vanity mirror when he rode shotgun. His constant need to flip the visor open and shut distracted his caretaker, and on particularly sunny days the reflection of the sun would get in her eyes.

One time during a class picture, he farted, and I mean he REALLY farted. He released a loud W.A.D. (Weapon of Ass Destruction). If you want to clear a large crowd, just cut one with all your might. That was seriously the quickest fart-induced mass exodus I'd seen in years! He was scolded by the teachers, but most thought it was too funny to stay mad, once the smell had cleared that is.

So, this kid's parents had decided not to tell him he had Huntingdon's Disease, because apparently there is an alarmingly high suicide rate among people have it when they find out. I was told that the poor kid had a life expectancy of "maybe 27." I distinctly remember that he was born in late 1988, which would make him my age now if he's still alive. Unfortunately, I don't think he's with us anymore.

Also, normally medical records are confidential, but an executive decision was made by the staff to tell the higher-functioning students (myself included) that this poor kid had what was basically a terminal disease that would ultimately end up killing him. Why? This kid was driving all of us up the wall and the other students (again, myself included) were quickly losing patience with his antics. Once we learned that he was pretty much incapable of controlling his behavior, we were much more understanding.

The really sad part is that this kid was made to believe that he was going blind and deteriorating mentally because of his diabetes, and he'll probably go to his grave thinking that if he hasn't already.

They just made improvements to the 5.0 this year and brought out the new 6.2 so it looks like they are still plenty into V8s. Too much market share for them to walk away from.

I can't find it... but I read an article not too long ago that the f150 was going to go strictly ecoboost in 2019... the super duty would keep the v-8's as well as the mustang. It was at the same time they announced they were killing all the cars except for the focus and mustang...

Don't want to clog up the "Car Porn" thread and get the OP annoyed again...

So, you get the A/C fixed in your Mustang? You should also put a ground-pounding stereo in it!

The stereo in my Tacoma destroys most factory systems! Also, didn't you say you partially financed your Mustang when you first bought it?

Booming stereos are nice! I think I financed about 5 or 6 grand back then and paid off in about 2 years.

As you may or may not know, I work as a barback at a nightclub, and we have a house sound guy. If anyone knows sound, it's gonna be the sound man. The day my neighbor helped me install it, I rolled up to work and Soundman Mike said he could feel me coming before I turned onto the alley in front of the bar!

Damn, sounds sweet! I remember sitting in a Stereo Shops competition Dodge Caravan called Rolling Thunder back in the 80s and it made my chest vibrate, scared the crap out of me.

Was it a 4-banger Dodge Caravan?

My aunt and uncle bought a 1986 Plymouth Voyager LE brand new. They were living in Georgia at the time and had to go to a dealership in Alabama and order it because they were in such high demand back then! That van served as their family car from 1986 until 1997!

I honestly cannot remember what it had, but I did work with a guy that had a Manual Trans Caravan, he delivered Newspapers and Pizza in it.

My uncle had one of those! He bought it used in like 2009 and customized it, but he got fed up with it when two engines in a row blew up...

They had to be pretty rare as I cannot imagine too many manual minivans.
